Description
We started brewing in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1834. Then in 1898 we got itchy feet. So we moved down the road to the Albion brewery. We still like it so we’ve not moved again since.
We came to Burton for the water. Well, for the rocks the town was built on to be precise. The water trickles down through a thick layer of gypsum before we bring it back up again through our well. That’s what gives our beers the depth of flavour, character and crisp refreshing bitterness that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Bottle from Morrisons. Coper/orange colour with thin off white head. Not sure what to make of this. Unattractive aroma, bit f malt, but also some nastiness. Some lemoon, some caramel. Bit grainy, not a lot in mouth, not sure I like it, some peppery hop

[Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen] A hazy orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is slighlty fruity and sweet. The flavor is sweet and rather hoppy combined with notes of fruits, like a mixed fruit bowl. The end is dry and rather bitter.

50cl bottle from Morrisons. Very dark ruby with lasting tan head. Some slightly sour choc aroma, bit of black skinned fruit. Some creminess in mouth. Finish is too fast for a stout but with some more choc and some bitterness and slightly grainy. This time last week I have the Titanic Stout from Sainsbury which is just infinitely superior to this.

50cl bottle from Morrisons. Not bad, but not good either and rather forgettable. Orange colour with thin disappearing white head. Bit o f toffee malt, but a bit dull due to its pasteurisation and some peppery hops. Bit thin in mouth and then some more peppery hop on end and a bit of orange fruit. Won’t bother with this again.Which is a bit of a shame as it was my 700th beer and I should have celebrated with something a bit better. Oh well.

Big fluffy head, dark golden to light amber coloured, clear; big floral hoppiness in the nose, traces of sulphur, malt and honey; initial slight malty sweetness gives way to a moderate bitter-aromatic flavour, ending in a dry, long lasting bitter-fruity finish; a quite fine IPA, quite pleasant, very smooth, refreshing........

Bottled. Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Hoppy nose with fruity hints. Strong hopped flavour with some sweetishbitter fruity hints. Wellbalanced, and hops grows in the long aftertaste. Mouthdrying. Aroma reminds of a bitter, while flavour is very IPAish. 5 2 7 3 10

Bottle: Medium amber coloured, thin white foamy layer; fruity (lemony) and malty aroma, some traces of minerals (or sulphur); smmoth, slightly sweetish beginning; mild bitter-malty taste, becoming drier towards the slightly bitter-aromatic finish. Quaffable, but absolutely not overwhelming, a bit plain.........

On draught at The Hop Pole; Limpley Stoke: Mid amber colour, thin foamy layer; vinous, sulphuric and fruity nose; moderate fruity (peaches) taste; mild fruity-bitter finish. O.K. and more aromatic than the bottled version.....
