Bottle shared at Craft. Thanks to Bob. Pours cloudy brown with a thick, brian cream head. Some tangy fruits in the nose. Medium sweet flavor, lots of grape and other sweet berries, mellow tang. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy finish, some lively carbonation, tangy berries. Decent, somewhat heavy.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 24 Nov 2012) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of black coffee, caramel, ashes and slightly brunt aromas. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, caramel, burnt sugar, black coffee and a generous roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with just a touch of sweetness. Well made and very nice stout.

My night-cap at the 2012 Shrewsbury Beer Festival on 1st Nov: glad I wasn’t driving the train home! Only had a third of a pint. Toffee apple in colour and almost in smell and taste too: the maltiness and sweetness is almost overpowering, add the alcohol feel and you’ve got a bit of a monster here. Strangely I thought it lacked depth of body for such a sweet and alcoholic brew: my taste buds might have been shot by the time I had this but it’s alcohol level brought me alive again and although this review might not sound full of praise I did enjoy my night-cap.

12th september 2012:two hand-pulled pint in The Cock Hotel, Wellington Shropshire. Pale brown, light amber body with a thinning head of off-white bubbles. More malts than hops in the aroma and taste, but lacks flavour and strength throughout, had two pints because I was on a session and the beer was OK for a 3.6%ABV starter for the evening. Doubt I’ll be ever having a third pint though. A Mr Average: which is a shame, because I like this breweries beers a more than this normally.

50cl bottle from Tanner’s Shrewsbury. Pours golden with the odd bubble and a nicely proportioned head. The nose has a grassy nose on a pale malt background. The taste has bitter lime and oranges with a biscuity finish. The palate is medium to large in body with a big tangy middle section and a tangy clean and very long finish. Overall, this is great - really complex and tastes much bigger than 5%.

12th May 2012 saw me on a pub crawl of Shrewsbury: First up was the ‘Castle Vaults’ and a hand pulled pint of this. Golden body, bright and clean looking: small white head. Nose of woody, earthy, nuttiness: with a hint of malty molasses. More malts in the taste than the smell: easy blend of flavours, fruitier than the aroma too, with a semi-bitter finish. I like Three Tuns brews in general and this is no exception.

Was driving: so could only have half a pint: hand pulled at the excellent brewery owned ’Horseshoes’ at Bridges (Ratlinghope) in Shropshire on 28th July 2012. Bright, light golden body with a tight, thin head of white bubbles on top, a bit of lacing appeared as I slowly sipped the half. The nose and taste were floral and hoppy, not normally my thing, but I enjoyed this beer. 3.6% ABV isn’t my thing either, but it tasted a lot stronger than that and although I’d have prefered more malt flavours this was fine. Citrus and woody notes as the beer warmed in the glass, pleasant and easy to drink.

22nd Feb 2012: Hand pulled half-pint in The Plough, Shifnal: Shropshire. Black, really black body: off-white flat crown of foam on top. Toasted and roasted malty aroma: dark chocolate, ground coffee and a mini hint of liquorice. The taste was sweeter than the nose suggested but with a hidden bitterness that comes through before you start thinking about ‘milk stouts’ and creaminess. Smooth more than rich, nice easy drinking brew.
