Description
The Yeastie Boys - Stu McKinlay and Sam Possenniskie are the dynamic duo of New Zealand's craft beer scene. They burst onto the beer landscape with two trophies for their flagship porter Pot Kettle Black at BrewNZ 2009 and have remained firmly ensconced there ever since.

Yeastie Boys is a deliciously irreverent brewing company and, quite possibly, the world's smallest multinational. We take beer and people very seriously... everything else is unmitigated fun!

We brew in opposite ends of the earth - New Zealand, Australia & United Kingdom - to keep the world in good beer balance.

440ml can. Pours a deep amber, clear with a tiny off white head. Aroma is ginger beer. Beer is light, slightly sweet & with a mild ginger taste, despite the ingredients saying just barely, hops, yeast & water are in the can. Maybe it is an artificial flavour they don't have to declare?
The IPA is really mild, the "ginger biscuit" also. It tastes like someone tipped some ginger ale in your ale. I'd rather drink ginger beer or a good IPA.

330ml can via Beer52, poured into my thistle shaped Gordons glass at home on 16th June 2025. Looked almost black, tanned crust on top. Malty at first then the fruity hops kick in, dark berries mostly but other fruits join in too. Nice finish to the day.

Bottle, 4.4%. Good hop aroma of light caramel. Almost clear golden colour. Small unstable white head. The flavour seems watery at first, but there is some of the aforementioned light hoppiness and a good bitterness. Clean finish with a cleansing bitterness. 636314 / 6 6 6 6 7

2/3rds of a pint at The Raven, Renfield Street, Glasgow. A reasonable session IPA. But considering it's Yeastie Boys - underwhelming.

[33cl can from Beer52.] An opaque, glossy peaty brown coloured pour with a thick beige head that falls back slowly; aroma of heavily roasted malts; dry in the mouth with a taste of burnt toast and a pleasantly fruity bitterness; then a lingering fruity finish with blackcurrant and blueberry. An impressive porter.

Been a while since I've seen a new Yeastie Boy. Can. Hazy pale amber, thick 3/2cm white head. Aroma pf tropical and light citrus fruit, some bread and herbal notes. Fruity but not all that sweet, despite some stone fruit joining the melange. Leans towards herbal astringency with moderate bitterness. Pretty good.
