Description
The City of Cambridge Brewery was founded in 1997 and specialises in selling premium bottled and draught beers. It was the first independent brewery to open in Cambridge after an absence of 25 years. Originally based in Cheddars Lane Cambridge, in 2001 it expanded into larger premises at Chittering.
We use inspiration from the beautiful City of Cambridge to name our products, which are available on draught at selected local pubs and also in bottles for you to take home and enjoy.
Brewing ceased in the second half of 2007 with brewing being contracted out to a.o. The Wolf Brewery and Oxfordshire Ales. By 2010 brewing was all taking place at Elgood & Sons Ltd. In Autumn 2011 the brewery was taken over by Wolf and all brewing takes place there. In 2011 the business partnered with WBC (Norfolk) to brew and bottle our beers to expand capacity to meet the growing demand for the iconic brands.

Bottle from home from Waitrose picked up by the lovely Sarah. Clear golden coloured pour with a loose sticky white head. Aroma is earthy hay, sweet careml , some diacetyl maybe. English yeast on the nose as well. Flavour is medium sweet, caramel, damp hay. Dfinitey a little diacetyl, but not too offensive. Medium palate, some sweetness, moderate carbonation and some grain tanin.

Bottle at home split with Sarah. As Paker’s Piece 5.0%. Clearly not a porter. Medium amber clear coloured pour with a thin lasting off white head. Aroma is toffee sweet, unrefined sugars, rum and raisin. Flavour is composed of, caramel, toffee, with earthy grassy bitterness. Some raisin and dried fruits, possible yeast derived. Palate is sem-sweet, slightly chalky on the toungue. This is definately not a porter. I would say ESB.

Bottle @ Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cambridge. Straw-blond with a very thin head. Has plenty of tropical fruit hops and is well-stated in both aroma and taste although feels a touch thin in its texture.

Bottle - Xmas gift. Poured a clear, light amber with a thin white head and some lacing. Aroma of straw, orange and a musky note. Malty initial flavour with some caramel and grass. Finish was brown sugar, mild smokey character and some chewy grain. Fairly plain bitter.

Bottle from the brewery (I believe). Poured a hazy amber with a thin, white head. Aroma of floral hops, hay and synthetic fruit. Very bitter initial flavours; metallic with some dry straw. Finish was astringent with copper and bitter hop resin. I could not recommend.
