Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.

Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

Bottle Poured a hazy coppery orange with an off white frothy head. The aroma was nice citrus hops and malt. This is a very drinkable with nice fresh hops citrus grapefruit and nice blend of malts that balance it very nicely.

Wow this is a sexy pruduct. Smells malty and swampy. Aroma has smokiness, lots of funky hops and a little booze. Pours jet black with tons of lacing - coated my glass completely. There’s a great bite of hops as well as a thick, syrupy consistency. After taste is bitter and spicy. Only problem is a slight note of swampiness that reminds me of the odd smell of Hellwoods. Just an imperfection at this point with this beer, though. Cask at volos.

2012-10-15, bottle from LCBO, Toronto, 7-4-8-5-15=39
Amber color, clear, with generous head. The aroma is milder than expected, but fresh and interesting, with fruity/resiny hops, acquiring a very light earthy character later. Lean mouthfeel, smooth; good caramel and toffee flavor; the hop is resiny and hoppy; the final is balanced, powerful and long.
Very good.

2012-10-13, draught at Volo, 7-5-7-4-15=38
Dark amber color, creamy head. Nice aroma, caramelly, a bit creamy, and with some cheesy yeast. Good caramel and toffee flavor, strong presence of cheesy yeast, strong bitterness. It has some ending astringency, and resins.

Bottle at national beer hall, Calgary. It pours lightly hazy orange, with a medium off-white head. The nose is juicy orange, tangerine, papaya, watermelon, sesame seed and some crystal malt. The taste is zesty citrus, grapefruit, orange, waxy lemon zest, papaya, light spice and some metal, with a pleasantly bitter finish. Medium body and medium, prickly carbonation. Nice IPA. Great name.

Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of grass, grapefruit and biscuit. Quite bland and boring. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very average Amber Ale, not outstanding at all.

I’m pretty sure this is the beer I was served, though the waiter at King’s Chinese buffet in Owen Sound didn’t know exactly what it was. Smells a little malty, decently interesting for a lager. Tastes crisp, a little above average. No foul aftertaste at least. Went well to wash down the greasy fake Chinese food, at least. Pitcher.
