General guidance to members adding beers:-
Kernel beers are largely added as 'series' and the naming within the various series are for example ... 'Pale Ale - Hop(s)'. Capital letter on each hop, no commas.
Kernel beers are largely left unretired so don't tick the 'out of production' box unless it's a special/collaboration beer.
With all the various hop combinations it's not been unknown for a specific beer to re-appear again after an absence of 7 years.
The early beers named as 'sours' were brewed by kettle souring, as such these beers (typically 4% and below) are regarded by the brewer to be more akin to a Berliner Weisse stylistically and are therefore listed as such.
The brewery springs from the need to have more good beer. Beer deserving of a certain attention. Beer that forces you to confront and consider what you are drinking. Upfront hops, lingering bitternesses, warming alcohols, bodies of malt. Lengths and depths of flavour. We make Pale Ales, India Pale Ales and old school London Porters and Stouts towards these ends. Bottled alive, to give them time to grow.

Tap at kernel tap room bermondsey, a translucent golden orange coloured pour with a loose fine white head. Aroma is semi sweet, spicy citrus, grassy hop, rustic grains sileage, mineral. Flavour is composed drying bready grains, chalk, spicy citrus, sileage, white grape, ok. Palate is super crisp, light, spritzy fine carbonation.. Decent.

Cask at the cock tavern Hackney. A mostly clear golden yellow coloured pour with a small white cap. Aroma is nice fruit salad, pale grains, peach melba, mellow tropicals. Flavour is composed of nice rustic grains, bready, tropical fruit salad, pear, Lychee, peach, nectarine, well rounded and easy going. Palate is semi sweet, good cask condition,

A light haze on this paleish gold beer, a decent pale cream head. Airy, semi dry and finely crisp palate. Thin pale malts. Plenty of lager tang here along with flor aspects and a touch of macro lager tasting paper. The back end is better, cooling pine and a pleasant lemony cut. Light dry finish. Decent, a bit more hop to boss the meh malts would be even better.

330ml bottle, 6.6%. Slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, peach, and some piney resin. Taste of orange and grapefruit, peach, pine, citrus peel, a little marmalade, resinous bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Quality stuff.

Bottles from Against The Grain. Black body with a huge tan head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of melon, chocolate and orange. Flavour of orange, espresso and pine. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. This is a delicious BIPA, softer and fruitier than previous versions, and just as good. This is my favourite beer style brewed by The Kernel - every single one has been delicious. It’s an excellent beer style to highlight what a particular combination of hops bring to hoppy dark beers. I just wish there were more frequent new releases.

Cask at CBC, Covent Garden on 22nd August 2026. Lightly hazy amber with shallow off-white foam and scant lacing. Sweet and nutty maltiness in aroma. Zesty peel, some grassiness and a robust malt in-mouth. Finish is bitter citrus peel and earthy maltiness. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Almost clear deep amber brown beer, small paleish tan head. Airy palate, semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Thin malts bring mild and unsweet caramel toffee. Oud Bruin ripe fruity tang soon takes over, vaguely HP sauce. A light but clear cherry vibe. More fruity tang with a touch of over aged red wine. Light and semi dry finish. Good fun, wouldn't want a pint.

(Draft at Craft Beer Clerkenwell, London, 18 July 2026) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit and pine needles. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, grapefruit, grass, white bread and a balanced citric/floral bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tasty, with a generous hop presence. Very nice.

(Draft at Kernel Taproom, Bermondsey, London, 18 July 2026) Golden colour, slightly hazy, with brief white head. Fruity, funky nose with notes of yeast, barnyard, herbs and mixed fruit. Fruity, tart taste with citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, pineapple, barnyard and oak wood. Hardly any bitterness. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Generous woody acidity. Very nice.
