Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

Bottle Pours a redish brown hazy and a very thick dense light tan head that just wont go away. Thick creamy lacing. Aroma is a quite strong citrus hops. Flavor is a very stong, harsh heavy flowery citrusy hops. Very heavy body and feel. Almost like syrup. Fumes of pepermint menthalyptus and grapefruit zest. A complex, busy, heavy beer that I’m sure the "hop-heads" will lke. Too much for me though

Amber coloured body with almost no head at all...but it was tan. Aroma of malt & some caramel-fairly bland. Medium to Light-bodied; Malty taste with almost nothing else in the palate. Bland aftertaste showing some caramel and little else. Overall, just what I had expected from Flying Dog-another inferior product. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purhased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York on 29-August-2004.

Bottled. Cloudy pale yellow, creamy head. Lemony aroma. Clean with rounded mouthfeel. Medium sweet and fairly light bodied, Lightly yeasty, but mostly lemony. Certainly not true to style, but pretty decent for what it is.

On draught at Lazy Chameleon. Dark copper color with a thin white head. Decent lacing too. Mildly malty aroma and a bit of roastiness. The body is kind of weak, with sweet malt and a little nuttiness and hops on the back end. The finish is mostly sweet with a light hops bitterness here and there. As with most of Flying Dog’s beers, the elements are all there but the execution falls short.

Bottle Pours a clear dark reddish copper with only a little head and thin spotty lacing. Aroma is plenty of hops and dark malts. Actually a pretty noce malty flavor. Not so much hops as it smelled like. A little tart but fairly one dimensional and thin. Carbonation is soft and the aftertaset is a mellow woody flavor.

Bottle Pours a deep redish copper with very little hed and sparse...no...scant lacing. Aroma is motly malty, wooody and sweet grain. Flavors are consistant. A full tasting, malty toasted grain. Robust and heavy. Easy on the hops and a barley bitter, woody aftertaste.

Bottle Poures a slightly hazy amber with a very large fluffy off-white head. Aroma is a strong hops smell witha little sweet honey. Lightly roasted grain. Flavor is of wood, grass and hops but not so sharp. The malt balances it out I think pretty well. I imagine IPA purists would think it weak but I rather like it. Feel is very smooth, leaving me with a slight bitter remonder at the end.

This is a real disappointment. I tried one earlier and had to come back for another try. This was a hazy honey colored beer with almost no head, and very little aroma. No real strong flavor comes out in this, a slight bitterness and some mouthfeel to let you know it wasn’t a lite beer. Flying Dog makes some better beers, and lots of brewers make better Bocks than this one.

Bottle Pours a very dark redish brown, with almost no head and little lacing. Aroma is sweat, carmel, plums, dates. Busy but nice and rich. Flavor is probly the same description. No surprises. The ABV hits you a bit but is masked well untill the finish where it comes through a bit more. Palate is thick and heavy. Rich and smooth. Ive had only a few BWs and this is pretty good.

This pours a nice amber color, clear, with a minimal white head. Malty aroma, smooth drinking but mostly uneventful.
