Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

Bottle: Poured a medium red colored beer with a nice head with medium retention. Aroma is quite nice with floral hops. Taste is even nicer with a hops heavy taste leaving a quite important bitter finish. Could have profited of more spice and a bit less hops; I believe taste would have been more subtle and complex. I find this to be very similar to North Stock Red Seal Ale. I’m still looking forward to trying more products from the Flying Dog Brewery.

Given the brewer this was a decent beer but that is faint praise.+++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a small white head. The aroma was strong with citrus and had a mild malty wheat undertone and some spice. Very nice aroma - one of the better smelling wheat beers I have seen. The flavor was strong citrus on the front and dry wheat on the middle and aftertaste. There was a slight sour tang on the finish. Overall a decent wheat, but I do wish that the flavor had lived up to the anticipation that the aroma inspired.

Sparkling amber, lasting beige head. Light hop/malt nose. Malt flavor with very mild hopping, too much so for the style. I certainly don’t detect all the hops either in nose or taste that everyone else seems to.

Amber, with fast fading beige head. Nose is a slighlty fruity light malt.Somewhat complex candy malt flavor, lightly fruity.

This beer was unspectacular. Standard ipa qualites were minimized. What did stand out was a positive floral taste. Not much of an ipa, but I will try it again to try to see what the deal is with these flowers I’m tasting.

Is it a porter or Scottish Ale? I’m not sure, but it was a decent beer anyway. Light brown. Flavors of coffee and malt, very straightforward with the taste. Kind of thin on the palate. Glad I tried it.

Pours a amber color with a large white fluffy head. Flavor is of course hops but not as hoppy as most IPA’s. The hops are more present on the aftertaste as it goes down. Middle of the road but would be interesting for those looking to try this style for the first time.

Looked like a wheat, smelled like a wheat, and tasted like a wheat. Unremarkable in any way, but everything I expected was there. A good effort; I would buy it again if it were cheap.

Bottle. Rich amber color with an off-white head that disapears quickly. Aroma of pine, citrus, but not that strong. It's bitter, but with a malt backbone. The problem is that it has too grassy of a flavor. Dry grassy aftertaste, but a nice body.

Not much to this brew. No real aroma or flavor. It is amber color though. Watery but drinkable and far from the best steam.
