Tap. Bath Hotel, Sheffield. Hazy, amber colour. Thick, bubbly, lasting, off white head. Nose has fruity, zesty led esters. Notes of fruity spice. Juniper. Hedgerow berry. Background of biscuity malts. Smells great. Taste is fruity, spicy sweet, and fruity, spicy bitter. Massaging, smooth, nicely full mouthfeel. Finishes spicy, soft juicy, bitter. Fruity esters remain throughout. Lovely hop. Yep.

Keg @ Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Hazy straw-blonde with a thin head. Unnervingly well smoked for its bright light colour. Has a sourness in its aftertaste. There’s Ham flavours here.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. Pours clear yellow-gold, effervescent, with a vivacious, frothy white head. Lots of fresh wheat in the nose, some yeast, pithy grapefruit, lemon peel, biscuits. Light to medium sweet flavour with more wheat bread, moderate grassy and rindy bitterness, yeast, more pithy citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon. Light to medium bodied with lively, massaging carbonation. Finishes with bready sugars, dry and pithy citrus, bitter orange rind, some pissy hops, continuing grapefruit and lemon peel. An excellent ’modern’ hopfen weisse. The hops really sing out.

Cask @ Piccadilly Tap, Manchester. Had the winter ESB a month earlier at the Manchester Beer Festival, this alternative version is better. Smoother, with its strength not really evident in its nose, although there’s a good tropical fruitiness here as well as in its taste. There’s a small grittiness in both respects, and a small dryness too, but it’s always tasty.
