Description

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy, orangey brown with a tiny, rough, beige head. Peaty nose, but not overwhelmingly so. Boozy. Medium body, sweet plummy, overripe fruit, low carbonation - and then quite some ashy peat. Warming alcohol finish. Peat really doesn't suit beer, and especially not a Quad. 310123

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear orangey brown with a small, rough, beige head. Quite some rum in the nose, tannins also why the base beer is a little muted. Rich body, dark, dried fruit, plummy. Some wood and quite boozy. Thankfully not that sweet. 230123

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, dark brown with an orangey red hue and a small and rough, beige head. Lovely complex aroma of brown sugars, dark, dried fruits and friendly Belgian esters. Solid body, but not massive, taste is perhaps a little less impressive than what the nose promised. Surprisingly little booze feel. 151222

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, deep glden with a smallish, off-white head. Very little aroma, almonds and faint phenols. Rich, sweet malty and fruity body, yeasty and estery with some late hops. Quite boozy - seems stronger than 8.1%. A bit buttery as well. 151222

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a tiny, brown head. Intense Islay aroma: peat, tar and iodine. A fluid you'd think more suited for road repairs than for drinking. Medium body, super dry and even tart. Loads of ashtray and iodine. Very little left of the base beer, the Islay has totally spoiled it. This is extreme and also not for me. 131222

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an almost clear nutty brown with no head. Delicious dark dried fruit, brown sugars and Cognac soaked wood. Rich, sweet body - but not overly sweet. The Cognac and the wood is very distinct and super delicious matching the base beer perfectly. There's a slight, finishing tartness but it doesnt really disturb the overall impression. I suspect the ABV could be quite a bit higher than the 11% higher stated. 131222

Bottle 33 cl. 1896 bottles made. Pours an opaque black with a small, light brown head - initially rough, but turning creamy. Fairly lifeless pour. Massive peat note, really heavy on the iodine. Rich, sweet roast. Very minerally or even chalky and again heavy on the iodine - bloody almost. Low carbonation. Body is to the thin side of a beer this strong. But absolutely decent - I just loathe peat in my beers. 301122
