Description
The brewery was founded in 2005 by four home brewers who wanted to make high quality beers. In 2016 two of the original founders retired, and the brewery is today owned by a constellation of the two remaining founders, some employees at the brewery and three other Norwegian craft breweries.

Haandbryggeriet currently has 10 employees all participating in developing new ground breaking beers and recipes.

The brewery has a wide selection ranging from classic and traditional beers to new and innovative brews and hybrid beer styles. Sometimes brewed with local and Nordic ingredients such as cherries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, and lingonberries. Haandbryggeriet has since 2005 also made high quality sours and barrel aged beers such as porters and Christmas beers.

Can to snifter.
Appearance: pours like a dark motor oil with an even gludgy sound and left an off-white foamy head
Aroma: rich roasty coffee beans, cocoa powder, dark bread
Flavor: semi-sweet with some bitterness, robust roastiness, semi-toasty, subtle roasty to semi-ashy aftertaste
Texture: medium bodied with a robust smooth feel, the wheat seems to just provide the level of the body but doesn't really add to the aroma or flavor, roasty finish
Overall: I'd say a nicely done RIS worthy of returning to.

16 oz. can. Pitch black in appearance. Aroma is slight chocolate, malt, light, roast, mild coffee. Flavor is a very good expression of a classic imperial stout. Good roasted malt, backbone with chocolate and coffee like hints. Body is full with a smooth texture. Slight bitter finish. Good.

Thinnish bod, med-light carbo. High sourness, substantially acetic. Not yet vinegar territory, but already well on the way. Medium red fruits, barnyard, vinegar. Went too hard in my opinion.

Tap at Valhalla Prague. Thx Gurthnar! Bit hazy dark red, brownish body, thick off-white head. Sourish, cherry, red grape, dusty notes, bit of caramel and saliva. Lean, dry taste, sour cherries, metallic, low caramel, more simplistic than expected but a nice one!

440can as Julebukk 2025, #1678, bought at Vinmonopolet Tromsø Sentrum. A fawn-coloured head over a black body with a deep ruby shade, spotty lacing. Dark chocolate aromas, smoothly roasted, promising. Chocolate malty taste joined by subdued moments of dried fruits. Mild-sweet malt-driven finish, gently roasted. Well bodied. Enjoyed on a dark Saturday afternoon. (Tromsø, 20.12.2025).
