Description
The brewery was founded in 2005 by four home brewers who wanted to make high quality beers. In 2016 two of the original founders retired, and the brewery is today owned by a constellation of the two remaining founders, some employees at the brewery and three other Norwegian craft breweries.

Haandbryggeriet currently has 10 employees all participating in developing new ground breaking beers and recipes.

The brewery has a wide selection ranging from classic and traditional beers to new and innovative brews and hybrid beer styles. Sometimes brewed with local and Nordic ingredients such as cherries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, and lingonberries. Haandbryggeriet has since 2005 also made high quality sours and barrel aged beers such as porters and Christmas beers.

Still, no carbonation. Brown color. Sour aroma with some vinegar and pear. Clearly in the style of a Flanders brown, mildly sour, some dried fruit and vinegar with sugar. It is definitely a success, but the price makes it a one-time kind of thing.

500 ml bottle, batch #130, at Parkteatret’s "Beer Day", Oslo. ABV is 6.0%. There are rumours that this really is the very same beer as HaandBryggeriet Påskegodt, but I find that hard to believe - Sen Sommer Ale is sweeter than I remember Påskegodt to have ever been. A side-by-side tasting is needed to settle that question, methinks. Hazy amber to orange colour, moderate head. Lovely aroma of fruity hops. Sweet flavour (slightly too much sweetness) with plenty of fruity hops. Moderately bitter finish.

500ml bottle. Reddish brown body with a thin off-white head. Aroma is sour fruity, oak, sherry and vinegar. Flavor lives much up to the expectation from aroma. It’s sour, oak, fruity, bittersweet and a bit vinegar and warming alcoholic. I’m thinking of Rodenbach Crand Cru, but it’s only in the neighborhood, still true to the Flemish sour style. Well balanced and delicious.

Very dark brown. Chewy, fudgey aroma with some burnt raisins and okinawan black sugar. Very chewy, lots of burnt raisins and a fairly strong, sweet, malt background. Nicely balanced, rounded.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small and shortlived head. Aroma is light citrusy and woody hoppy with a light caramel note and yeast. Smooth fruity hops flavour with a solid caramel malt base and a lasting yeasty flavour. Sweet caramel flavour into the finish with a declining bitterness. Lasting yeasty impression.
