22 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Fall 2009 on label. Pour is a slight hazed orange, copper and brown with a nicely formed 2 inch off white head. The head falls slowly and loosely with some lacing. Aroma of dusty grain malt with some cereal / caramel sweetness. Not much else, a bit faint. Taste is the sweet caramel and nutty malt followed by some of the dustiness of the nose, and not too much past that. Palate is thin, almost watery with low to medium carbonation. Finish is clean and brief. Overall a tad on the dull side, but constructed well enough and easy to drink. Thanks for sending this my way Phil.

Bottle at Chriso pre GBBF tasting 09. Black, very dark brown colour. Really good impy stout, bit grainy, but not overly boozy, I really quite like it. Malty rather than grainy. Cool

Brewgrass 2009 Amber with a smallish head. Fruity nose, some cherry/berry. The flavor reminds me of a washed out Lindemann’s Framboise. A bit thin, needs a touch more of everything to bring this one all the way.

An extravagant thanks goes out to cool josh from beer advocate for this special brew! Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 7/9/2009 Pittsburgh RB tasting extravaganza (PGHRBEXT) at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I see a spread of bottles like I did there. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we served! For example, how about this beer: vortex, yewow! Smell is cloyingly sweet and alarmingly weird hops. Cloudy light iced tea in color. Some carbonation greets the tongue. However, this stuff is strong and alky, wew. Way too much for this lager lover. I think my taste buds are getting sucked into the vortex of a tornado tempest. Strong, chewing green grapefruit rinds soaked in alky. I don’t really know if this is beer or not except for the hops. Very, very triple hoppy. Did I say this was hoppy? Certainly terribly on style.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange-brown color with a large tan head. The aroma was strong floral and fruity hops. The flavor was harsh, strong and very boozy with noted rough fruity and floral hops. The finish was dry, boozy and floral. The mouthfeel was thick. The alcohol really detracted. Ok.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Thin coffee and barley coffee aroma. Correct body, some residual sweetness; the coffee flavor (mild) is joined by a very light sourness. At the end there is some evident alcohol warmth. Atypical, but not extreme, not bad.
