Description
Eik & Tid (Oak & Time) is a farmhouse beer inspired brewery in Oslo, Norway dedicated to making sour and wild beer the nordic way.

Our entire brew setup is customized to fit the raw beer brewing process. By modifying surplus dairy tanks from Norwegian farms, we where able to get what we needed at an affordable cost. We also like the added bonus of upcycling derelict equipment instead of getting new made and shipped half across the globe.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7

Sampled at Nøgne Ø/Zwanze 2016. Unclear pale golden body with a small white head. Aroma is like a small explosion of cucumbers with acidity and sour fruit in the background. Flavor is acidic with malt, fruit, berries and yeast like the orifinal #5 but with a surprisingly strong cucumber flavor that plays tricks with my palate. I get the feeling of drinking pickles and can even sense some salt here. It’s not bad at all, but very strange and I think a glass or two would be enough. Fine body and sour cucumber in aftertaste as well. More of a novelty beer, but very funny and it works somehow.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7

Sampled at Nøgne Ø/Zwanze 2016. Unclear golden orange body with a small white head. Sampling this after the unblended #5 I find both aroma and flavor being soften out a bit, less acidic aroma (but still quite acidic) with hint of yoghurt and light wood. Flavor is acidic fruity, soft wood, yeast, hint of yoghurt and mild lemons. Even the body feels a bit lighter, but that’s something I have experienced before when wood is involved. Fruity acidic aftertaste. Nice but I actually preferred the regular #5 in this case.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8

Sampled at Nøgne Ø/Zwanze 2016. Unclear golden body with a thin white head that fades. Aroma quite acidic with citric fruit, yeast, esters and hint of yoghurt. The first sip is immediate rather sharp acidic, then the citric fruit flavor evolves with more complexity, acidic berries, lemon zest, wood, yeast and yoghurt. Its still “in your face” acidic, but in a very nice way with lots of complexity and an overall impression of refreshing and tasty. Impressive well balanced body at only 4% ABV with a long lasting sour aftertaste. A really nice first impression for this brewery and it makes me happy to see that some new brewers take their time and effort to make sour beer the hard way in this Berliner Weisse/fruit juice era.
