Description
Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of twenty Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals.

Bomber thanks to Dan. Pours a near black color with a medium tan head. A big malty nose with dark fruit and light caramel and tobacco. The flavor is toffee, warmth, plum, caramel, brown sugar, sweeter sugars, light tobacco and raisin. Very good.

I’m not generally a big fan of Christmas spiced beers but this one is a different story. Dark brown with a ring of foamy head. Aroma is sweet, creamy, spiced, toasted malts, chocolate. Medium to full body. Flavor is sweet, toasted malts, cream, spices, nutty, milk chocolate. A real stunner. Delicious.

On tap at the bocktown monaca. Very nice lacing. Rather mild yet bitter flavor, much less annoying than other rye beers. You know, they taste so much like an IPA. Not over the top. Rather flat. Big neggy finish. Not real impresses but at least something new from these guys.

Dark mahogany pour under a tan head that coats the glass as it dissipates. It has a light aroma of sweet malt. there is more to the flavor than the aroma let on.Sweet malt, nice nutty sweetness, good full body too. Worth trying if you like Doppelbocks.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a fluffy white head and absolutely pungent aromas of skunky hops. Way over the top in the nose and also in the flavor. They die down a little as the beer airs and warms, but the first couple of sips made me think the thing was going to be all the skunk from a whole case of Beck’s distilled into one 12 ounce serving. Even after they die down a bit, they are still too abrasive for the style in my opinion. There are the basic components of a decent kolsch hiding underneath, but they get buried by the hops.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Pours beautiful trnnslucent golden with small white head which completely dissapated fairly quickly. No lacing, medium body, low carbonation, and clove aroma. Taste is nice rich clove, slightly tart lemon, some spice, and some banana. You had me at clove, great american hefeweizen.
