14/9/2024. Can courtesy of Reuben, huge thanks! Region #462. Japan prefecture 33/47. Pours clear pale gold with a green tint and a few bubbles. Aroma is green pear, pear drops, boiled sweets, floral, perfumed, bit artificial, some banana foams came through. Quite sweet, moderate developing bitterness, slight tart edge.Moderate body, oily, fizzy. Sweet clammy finish. Interesting but not great.

On tap at Beer Ma. Pours a green blue color, a small white head. A spicy citrus nose. Medium tart fruit, mild citrus, smooth.

Now canned as: Johana Hakama Ale India Pale Ale 6.5% RateBeer lists list as an Amber Ale but I’d say red IPA is a good match. Reddish brown in color with a thick beige head of foam. The aroma is piney hops with caramel maltiness. Medium to full bodied with a smooth textured mouthfeel. The taste is tutti-frutti sweet at first the piney bitterness before you get hints of malts interspersed with citrusy hops.

 Johana Apple Tea Ale 4.5% A light amber gold with a dirty white rocky topping of foam. The aroma and flavor shout apple tea but aside from the medium body and a certain maltiness it feels way more tea than beer.

Johanna Hikiyama Black Black IPA 600¥ take out tap in crowded Omicho Market. This dark brew is t ok ashy and creamy with mild piney hop notes. Solid brew though the hops are take for a black ipa.

Hazy gold with a film of white foam and a nice juicy guava aroma. Medium bodied and fairly smooth. Quite a solid hazy IPA.

pale straw color. Frothy white head. Big yeasty notes with wheat and hay in the background - not exactly an saison in the nose. Light Smooth body, nightly tart medium low bitterness. More towards a White ipa . It’s ok

In honor of the recently completed Johana Tap Takeover I figured I should get at least one of their beers while I’m here: Johana R2 Masaru 5% Matte gold with a filmy bright white foamy top and a subdued dank funky aroma... probably served too cold but it has a weird edge to how it smells. Fairly full bodied but super dry. The flavor has a toasty burnt biscuit thing to it which is very strange in an IPA. This tastes earthy and off, not really tasty. It has a bizarre mushroom funk, I can’t pick out anything terribly IPA about it... what a let down, most beers I’ve had lately from Johana have been trending up so this is very disappointing.
