Description
The Gueuzerie Tilquin began operations in February 2009. It was 12 years that a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, which began in 1997).

The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blendery in Wallonia. The company is located in Bierghes (Rebecq), 200 meters from the linguistic border, and is directed by Pierre Tilquin. Pierre is bio-engineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. He then followed an intensive course in brewing science in Leuven, and he had his experience at the brewery Huyghe (Melle), 3 Fonteinen (Beersel) and Cantillon (Anderlecht).

draft@Chez Moeder Lambic: 2011 version mix of 1 & 2 year old lambic’s, appearance is hazy yellow/orange with a white head that quickly disappears but laces, smell is only slightly sour with lots of slightly tart fruit, mainly lemons & limes, taste is a fresh & sweet tartness with sour lemon & orange peel as well as a slight aftertaste of sweet peach, slightly acidic, the slight acidity seems to be coming from the Cantillon, taste & body sort of reminds me of what you get when you leave a bottle of Fanta open for a long time, there is something soft drink like about this, interesting & nice gueuze but to me it doesn’t fit together with the established classics, this should change a lot with subsequent blends & with more age on it

Bottle 750ml. @ Gueuzerie Tilquin, Chaussèe Maieur Habils 110, Rebecq-Rognon, Belgium. [ As my rating # 20000 on ratebeer ]. Light unclear medium orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy barnyard, leather, wood, citrus - grapefruit, tart. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate acidic with a long duration, dry. IMO a bit young so it will deff. be nice to follow Pierre the next years and see how the beers will improve. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110528]

Tap at the 20th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation. It pours light amber, with no head or carbonation. The nose is sweet apple, white sugar, caramel and melon. The taste is sweet apple, peach, apricot, red grape, melon, farmyard, with a sweet tea finish. A fairly simple faro (but please note I am not a great fan of this style).

Tap at the 20th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation. It pours slightly hazy golden yellow, with no head or carbonation. The nose is sweet white grape, apricot, peach and floral. The taste is initially tart: sour white grape and apricot, then light grass, hay, farmyard and peach, with a short dry finish. A decent unblended lambic, but not amazing.

02/06/2011 37.5cl bottle @ Klaas' place - BB: 22/12/2020 (2011-248) Thanks to John for sharing the bottle!

Pretty cloudy light orange beer, practically no head. Aroma: lemons and lime, typical bretta nose, basement. MF: little carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sour start, lemony and bretts, pretty surprisingly bitter touch also. Aftertaste: sour, orange peel and zest bitterness. Not bad. Maybe a bit young still. Time will tell.

Draught at the Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation in Opstal. Hazy amber color, no head. Aroma of caramel and dust. Taste has a sweet start, then turns tart, dusty raspberries, dry finish. Interesting.
