Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

Pours a watery, opaque black from the bomber with a thin, creamy slightly off white head. Nice inviting aroma of roasted malts but also a faint hop aroma as well. Flavor is very unique, obviously roasted malt, espresso and bitter chocolate are at the forefront. There is also a heavy amount of fruit, grapes, and a surprising spice/yeast finish. Crisp on the palate. The complexity of the flavor (think stout meets dubbel) really makes you believe this is a reserve beer.

Bottle from irishboy sent my way many months ago (thanks!) - this beer has got to be good - I mean, it comes in a box with a freakin’ scroll on the inside explaining the creation of the beer - lot’s of mystique surrounding this stuff - I think it was crafted by elves in the bowels of a volcano something like three hundred years ago - and it shows - I can taste the elf magic - dark, burnt brown in color, with a tan head - very warm, inviting aroma of oak, whiskey, vanilla, rum, caramel, dark fruits - smooth, creamy mouthfeel, with an almost spicy woodiness - the beer warms the mouth and throat like scotch or bourbon does, but because of the heaviness and complexity of the beer, this isn’t unwelcome - well-integrated bourbon and vanilla flavors - figs and caramel - toasted/roasty/peat qualities - finishes like a fine bourbon - god bless those heathen elves.

Aroma of darkly roasted malt, and some coffee and chocolate. Dark brown/black color with a beige/tan head that laces. Full mouthfeel. Starts with chocolate, followed by coffee, and then some really dark roasted malt. Smooth, but not quite creamy. The finish is dry and there is enough bitter to make it worthwhile.

Primary aroma is flowery hop, backed by some medium malt. Color is very copper, with a white head that isn’t persistent. Starts with a bit of carbonation bite, medium mouthfeel. Seems to be floral hop with accompanying malt. More balanced than many. The finish is dry and bitter, but some malt aspect tags along. Really decent. Still good beer!

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours clear, deep golden with a white, lacing head. Very fresh and fruity hop aroma. Fairly light in body with a weak malt base, but the aroma hops are incredibly fresh and fruity with accents of peaches and exotic fruits. The finish is dry but not really bitter. 290307

Pours clear dark brown with a good, yet short-lived head. Big caramel aroma. Sweet flavor cut by some dryness and subtle oakiness. A bit sweet, but a good sipper.
