Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

Bottled. Clear dark amber, rich head. Big toffee aroma. Sweet, soft and rounded with oak and caramel dominating. More focused on malt flavours than hops, which is scarce among American microbrewers. Very pleasant!

Bottled. Pale amber, slightly hazy. Strong grapefruity hop aroma. Clean and light bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Orangey finish with good bitterness. Good typical APA.

A hazy orange beer with an OK head. The aroma is extremely hoppy with a sweet background. The flavor is hoppy, grassy, and extremely dry, while the mouthfeel is flat.

This produced an average sized head topping a light amber beer. Nice aroma of cookie dough and orange. Starts with a light malt flavor that ends with a mild bitterness and dry finish. Good APA.

Deep black color that coaxes into a decent head. A little red around the edges. Chocolate aroma is a little timid, improves as it warms, but never really live up to the expectations. Flavor is acceptable, but I was expecting much more from the oak barrel aging. Just another fair Porter.

This was one of the most mild, subtle beers I've had in a while. Immediate aroma boasts a touch of vanilla and oak. Dies down into some mild hops. Fairly dry throughout, complexity hangs on the background and never really comes out. It's got a decent balance, I would ask for more malt. I like the flavor of the malt though, good light toffee. Touch of cherry fruitiness from the yeast. Very little head. No bottle conditioning.

Very opaque blackness. Cocoa, chocolate and the usual suspects. Milky rich chocolate notes. Simple porter. It just happends to be really effin' good simple porter.

From Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA. I liked the Walker's Reserve better than this but this is still a good brew. Pours a bright amber color with a medium thin cream colored head. Thin lacing. Aroma of caramel, malt, and brown sugar - but it took awhile for the aroma to show itself. Flavor is nicely rich if a little over-carbonated. Very malty with some caramel and fruit. Finish has some hops but is a little weak. I'd get it again though.

Courtesy of Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA. I was a little suprised when I prepared to open the bottle when I noticed it was a little over half full. Seeing as there was not a 1/2 bottle of spilled beer in my suitcase when we came back, I am assuming it was bottled that way. Sure enough, it was not flat or anything - just not full! Anyway, the beer pours a murky light orange color with a medium white head that did not last too long. Nicely bitter aroma. Flavor is hoppy but not real strong (at least in terms of West Coast style APAs). Decent malt balance and the finish is crisp and refreshing. I'd get this again next time I am in CA.

Bottled, thanks hopsrus!!
Very dark brown. Restrained grapefruit aroma. Flowery and reasonably dry with medium- to light body and a licorice finish. Flavourful, yet very drinkable. A top notch porter!
