Description
We are two chemical engineers who fell in love with Shelburne, Nova Scotia – the place, the people and the lifestyle. We quickly discovered that our career options here were limited. So…in 2012 we founded a craft brewery and made our own jobs, and a few others too.

We create craft beer experiences – we like to think we meet each of our customers where they are at on their craft beer journey. We do this by focusing on quality and consistency (like the well-trained engineers we are) and by crafting our products with purpose and intention. We brew a wide variety of styles and we believe we have a beer for everyone, even those of you who think you don’t like beer. We design beers to challenge your assumptions, and to honour traditional styles. We love what we do and where we live, and we love helping people like you find a local beer that you will love.

We were not always beer geeks – we have been on our own journey with craft beer. We started brewing in lobster pots in the backyard and fermenting in carboys in the living room (which occasionally meant yeast clumps on the ceiling)…and when we started drinking beer at least one of us mixed it with Clamato juice.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a huge bright brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some black chocolate and light vanilla notes is quite pleasant. Taste is a good mix of black chocolate notes with some roasted flavours with some floral coffee notes, lactose and nice vanilla beans notes. Body is about average with probably too much carbonation for the style but no apparent alcohol. I loved the fact that this beer almost tasted like a latte.

A deep brown stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light peated notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with light resinous hops, light peated notes, nice and smooth. Bottle at Hugue and Alex tasting.

Bottle - Light malts. Deep brown with a rich beige head. Light malty notes and highly carbonated. Too much carbonation and very singular in taste.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of toasted English malt, crusty bread and a touch of fruitiness. Flavour is fairly bitter, with toasted bready malt, some bitter hopping, and crusty rye bread. Dry, somewhat bitter, and toasty. Decent.

Dark nut brown. This has a medium head. On the nose, this is thin and nutty, not really a good look. You always want to pick up some nice sugars. Far too much carbonation, especially for something billed as English Ale. Thin, light brown sugar notes but not much nuance. Not a whole lot going on, unfortunately.

Bottle - Juicy grapefruit and some orange peel. Clearish dark copper gold with a small beige head. Grapefruit and pith with a nice bit of bitterness. Not bad.

Hazy, dark amber. This has a really strong canned peach aroma, with some of those pears. Gotta be some higher alcohols in here. Moderate bitterness, more of those canned fruits, It’s not that great - all the elements are there but they aren’t necessarily coming together all that well.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out resinous hops, caramel malt, and residual candied sweetness. Flavour is quite sweet, with lots of caramel bready malt upfront, followed by resinous hops, finishing with a candied, sort of cough syrupy sweetness. Not elegant by any means, but it's not bad.

Tasting at Matt’s, 4% ABVHazy amber color. The aroma is strong, very estery, some British character. Initially it seems to have some British flavor too, but then this turns into too much vegetable bitterness, quite unpleasant in the final.

On tap at Townhouse Brewery & Pub. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of light flora, grass and grains with a hint of caramel underlying. Flavor has more grass with a touch of pine and sweet grain supporting.
