On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Nose has ethanol, chaotic esters, candi sugar, cotton candy, and floral notes. Flavour is chaotic, with candi sugar, cotton candy, weird tartness, and ethanol. Oh man, what a disaster this is. Chaotic, sweet, estery, alcoholic. Not remotely on style and very incompetent. Very, very bad.

On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours black with a small brown head. Nose brings out big roasted malt, some bitter hops, and dry cocoa. Flavour is big n bold, with loads of roasted malt, bitter hops, and dry cocoa powder. A bit brutal and over-dry, but very roasty and hoppy. Pretty solid.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 6

On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours a fairly clear dark reddish mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is quite neutral, with bready malt and light toffee. Flavour has a slight vegetal character, with light toffee, bready malt and some toasted nuts. Finishes slightly vegetal/herbal, with low residual sweetness and a bready malt character. Not quite dialed in right, but not terrible.

On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours a mostly clear dark copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out winter spices, bready malt, and a hint of cocoa -- very odd and muffled. Flavour is muddled and just puzzling -- what's this going for? There's muffled winter spices, earthy malt, muddled caramel, and bready notes. Jumbled and confused. This isn't good.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 4 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 4.5

On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours a cloudy dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, light earthiness, and some dusty cocoa. Flavour is smooth but has some tartness to it (infection?), with light cocoa and toasted malt. The tartness isn't intense, but there's no way it should be there. Infected, substandard porter.

Deep dark brown coloured body with no head at all - there isn't even the slightest bit of movement here and no bubbles - perhaps the seal wasn't so great or degraded over the past 12 years!?! Aroma of roasted malt, molasses, earth, light nuts, a dash of grapes and some plums, but the malts seem strongest here in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Pretty thin body with the roasted malts and earthiness front and centre, but not showing too much, with a lot of caramelised sugars and grapey, pitted fruit sweetness right behind that brings out a slight tart and juicy kick at the tail end, all while being very easy-drinking throughout. Aftertaste shows only the lighter nuttier and rustic malts without much body, but with some flavours and the softer sugars from the grapes, raisins and prunes without much else. Overall, it seems that this is a slightly maltier and roastier brown ale, but with the age of this (although I did fly back home with this and the seal/contents have been okay of course) it's definitely possible that this hasn't held up over time - Imagine that!?!? Not a great beer, but I've kept it special for a while and always have a special place in my heart for any Alaskan beer! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 23-June-2011 sampled at my house here in Washington on 30-January-2023, yes 11 and a half YEARS later!

Tap. Pours clear golden, small white head, good lacing. Aroma is grain, hints of lemon, floral hops. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, a bit overly floral. Light body. Eh.

Thanks Frank.
This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a burnt golden color with a thin finger’s worth of white foamy head. Dissipated nicely. Some messy lace.
The aroma had some earthy to herbal with a mild grassiness. Some bready crisp clean toffee and caramel maltiness.
The flavor brings those previously mentioned aromas and allows a nice smooth toasty malt. Quick bready/caramel aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable to sipping quality about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV grips nice and appropriate.
Overall, pretty good English strong ale that I could have again if I could get it.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a semi-clear amber color with a thin off white semi-foamy head. Mild stringy lace.
The aroma had some biscuit to caramel malts. Mild citrus pulp and piney hop bitterness.
The flavor leaned towards the mild malty side with a fair bready/biscuit contour bumping in there. Sly hop burn hitting against the malts in the aftertaste with a dry bitter finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable sort of mild feel to it. ABV felt appropriate. Carbonation felt fine.
Overall, decent DIPA but there’s so many on the market these days, is it worthy of coming back to? Maybe if handed one.
