I was not as impressed with this as I was with its Oak Aged Brother. Aroma is nearly completely malt with citrus hops also coming on later to dominating that category. There is also a tad bit of something tangy and maybe some cinnamon. The pour yeilds a huge frothy head covering a clear amber/red body. The head lasts fully and retains a big soapy character. The lacing is spotty, literally leaving dots all over my glass. The taste is much maltier than even the aroma portrays. The muthfeel is watery with extremely soft carbonation. As I said before, I personally think that the Oak Aged counterpart is far superior. Re-rate on tap, beautiful ale, nice hop and malt balance in the taste. Great fruity hoppy aroma...decent alcohol warming. Great looking beer with plenty of lacing... Syrupy mouthfeel. Great!

tap at Stone brewery - Pours reddish-brown with a medium sized head. The aroma has hops with a hint of citrus, some malts, and of course the oak. The hops are more assertive in the flavor than they are in the aroma and the oak comes through nicely without being overpowering. Medium to full bodied with a moderately bitter finish, this beer is really good. I think I like the original Arrogant Bastard just a little more though.

This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. Absolutely. Nice aroma tho. Some carbonation but the tremendous amount of green citrus rind, turns me off more. First mellow then suddenly offensive. Quite rude and non apologetic. Excessively arrogant. Way too much for me and my sissy taste buds. Good example of this rude style.

12 fl. oz. bottle, thanks to my son Steinar. ABV is 7.2%. Cloudy dark brown colour, big and creamy tan head. Very nice aroma of fruity American hops and oak, blackcurrants, marmelade, some vinous notes too. The mouthfeel is first soft and creamy and the flavour is first fruity smooth and alluring, then a treacherous and distinct hoppy bitterness sets in, accompanied by oaky and smoky notes. Very bitter aftertaste. An "arrogant" beer, perhaps - but not quite as arrogant as I feared. I am worthy!

Aroma is Moderat hops of equal parts flowers and grapefruit. There is also oak, vanilla and something peppery to the smell. Pours a quite nice amber-red with a creamy head. The appearence gets a 5 from me for the absolutely outstanding lacing. Taste is nice subtlely bitter hops. Good. Goes down well with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Will buy again.

Bottle. Very strong aromas of roasted malt, pine and perhaps citrus. Luminous mahogany color (under halogen) with a tannish head that went up and down quite quickly. Medium to full body with very smooth carbonation. The flavor starts very malty, but there is an awful lot of hop to nearly balance it. The finish is rather sweet, but the hop continues to build. There’s a lot of malt and hop, but it could stand more bitter. Heat was hardly noticeable, and didn’t interfere with the flavor.

Brown color wih nice generous head and nice lace. The aroma features mainly harmonious vanilla and some oxidisation. The mouthfeel is very smooth, well blended, with caramel flavor and nice Bourbon vanilla; more dark caramel later. Maybe less impact and freshness in the final. Still good, I wouldn’t age it more.

2009-11-09, bottle at Bishop’s Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm, 7-5-7-4-14=37
Hazy dark amber color; small head. Rough aroma: alcohol, dust, sweat, yeast. Strong body, caramel flavor, harsh hop resins; not enough fruity or sweet.

Dark brown color; creamy persistent head. Beautiful aroma, where the hop is melting into sweet caramel and vanilla. The body is well structured, malty and caramel flavor, but I was expecting more sweetness at the end. Bold bitterness of course, but not enough exciting. Pleasant but controversial.

22 oz. bottle received from both Zinister and MrBendo in separate trades. Pour is a slightly hazed ruby brown with a decent tan head on top. Aroma of sweet malt grain (rye?) and a bunch of resiny bitter hops. The taste is a nice combo of the sweet caramel malt, the resin hops and a nice finish with the graininess. The body of this one is huge, almost chewy. Initially served at about 50 degrees. When this warmed to about 65 or so, it really took on the nose of a hoppy Barley Wine. I really enjoyed this beer a lot, thanks fellas! (I look forward to the second one!)

Beautiful reddish-brown beer, slightly hazy under a thick-set cream-beige head, lacey. Wood and hop smells. As if pine trees were used for leading up hop vines. As well as the crust of roast, covered by hopleaves. Dry hopsacks and the ubiquitous pie bottom. The wood has thinned out the beer, no doubt. It’s much more austere, severe than the usual ABA. Dry hard cheese, wood, cake, and "some" hops. Vinous, too, as a wine gone just slightly over its peak. There’s also a distinctive flavour of cervil, strange, but welcome. Thinner as expected, alcohol just not hidden, even if it belies it 7.2% ABV. Quite interesting beer. In fact, despite its predictability (is that English?), it comes out as more than the sum of its parts. I rather like it, and a big thanks to MikeK!
