A hazed amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a smooth fruity ale with tropical fruits, bananas, cloves, classic. In mouth, a smooth fruity malt with citrus, mango, peaches, alcohol warmth, nice and smooth. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.

Slight hazy copper. Sweet, caramel, apple in the aroma. Watery body. Flavor is light beer, heavier cider. Sweet, apple, light caramel in the flavor with a bit of malt. I’ve homebrewed a cider/beer hybrid before and was excited for this. Did not meet my expectations.

Interesting take on the coffee beer: a Coffee Mexican Dark Lager. Modest coffee on the nose, coupled with a definite lager aroma. Not too pretty either. Tastes good, not great, with a very brisk coffee flavor that moves along a little too quickly to benefit the dark lager. Mild bitterness on the finish, but the lagery-sweet fade isn’t very pleasant, showing off why corn should never be used in beer. The texture comes off thin and undercarbonated; I can see this as a summer beer, quick and easy and forgettable.

12 oz. bottle from a trade. Used my Duvel Tulip. Hazy amber gold. Great retention and lace. Lots going in the taste. Little in the nose. Interesting flavor palate. Belgian yeast is the main player. I get spiciness’ from undefined spice. Grassy hops providing a mild, lingering bitterness. Candi sugar, hops and yeast kind of fight each other in this brew. The flavors are all over the place. I also notice the ABV. This could be a brew that would improve with a bit of age on it. The 8.5 is distracting me from the flavors that ARE mashed up here.

Pours a lovely clear, orange-copper. Aroma is of apples. Tastes like a light pilsener into which some apple juice has been mixed. Not altogether unpleasant, but really not all that memorable, either.

bottle from Zipp’s, pours light reddish brown with a medium creamy tan head that lasts the length of the glass. Aroma is big coffee beans and mild roast. Flavor is creamy oats and toast with big flows of coffee, semi-sweet mild roast, bold heavy roast, all very fresh and clean in the finish. Sublime!

An amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, an interesting green peppercorn, with fruity esters, nice and smooth. In mouth, nice smooth saison-like offering, with nice pepper notes, malty and smooth, a bit of orange pulp. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Maybe I got a bad bottle, but I’m not tasting the pepper that everyone says is so overpowering. This tastes like a run-of-the-mill pilsner as much as anything. Nothing special, really.

12 oz bottle at a friend’s party. Cloudy yellow, nice long-lasting head but a plastic cup won’t yield to much lace. It shows a nice banana ester nose. Mixes hefeweizen with Belgian wit, a bit of bubblegum and malt. Taste is slightly sweet with fruit esters and a bit of wit spice. Slight funk.
