On tap at the Kyoto Craft Beer Fest. 35 IBUs It poured with a nice rich ruby color. It was malty sweet & rich though slightly overcarbonated for the style I felt. I agree with KyotoLefty, it’s a nice barleywine but a bit too young. I’m happy they tapped a keg at 5:30pm so I could get a taste!

Draught at the brewpub. Very cloudy, pastel yellow, with a fine head. Malty, fruity nose, lemon. Fruity, citrus flavor, tangy, with low bitterness. A bit estery. Flavorful but nowhere near authentic as a kolsch. Easy drinking.

Bottled, 2012. Better hops than before, clearly a strong alt with some sake character, but now coming off more like a well-made sticke. good malt, good hops, not a whole lot of sake taste evident but just a little. Good beer. Bottled at the Eni-Bru 4th Anniversary Celebration, 2011: 3.1. Pretty orange-amber color. Fruit aroma, malty, caramel, with a dry dustiness. Not fragrant but nice enough. Sweet caramel flavor, like a strong altbier / sticke, but with some sake-like qualities. Rather dry, grapes. A bit too sweet but interesting.

Draught at BBS, 3 year aged version. Very nicely aged, soft, mellow, great malt flavors are balanced well with the sweetness and alcohol. Very good. Rating is for this version, as it is best. Bottle at the Golden Garden, Hiroshima, 2009: 7/4/7/3/14 Dark brown with lots of cherry red and a tall head. Big fruity nose, lots of malt and caramel. Flavors of chocolate and caramel, not much fruit. Some what muddy and alcoholic, and very bitter—no hop aroma but a strong bitterness from burnt malt and hops. A bit harsh, but it displays nice malt richness, with rich, layered malt somewat reminiscent of a doppelbock. Needs a bit of fine tuning, but a good first try for a company that never made a strong beer before.

Draught at Ushi-Tora, Tokyo. Cloudy straw colour. Evident fruity estery banana aroma. Sweet and medium bodied with swampy banana and yeast. Truely phenolic and yeasty weizen, but otherwise it delivers exactly what I expect from a weizen.

Cloudy, golden color. Big bananas, cloves, but phenolic beyond belief. Very dry finish, but the beer loses so much for the out of control phenols, which one friend swears Japanese people love. Funny enough, I drank the same beer, in the same pub an hour before when a friend ordered it and it wasn’t nearly as bad.

Draught at the brewpub. Not overly sweet, not too complex. Finishes dry. Decent alt. On tap at the Microbrewers’ Festa in Hiroshima, 2008: 5/3/6/4/12. Big caramel nose and flavor. Rather fruity as well. Rather light bodied and easy to drink. Decent enough, though not very special.
