Big Drop was launched in October 2016 by the-then City lawyer Rob Fink, along with his school-friend/band-mate, designer and entrepreneur, James Kindred. Along with renowned experimental brewer, Johnny Clayton (formerly of Wild Beer Co), they’ve perfected techniques to make alcohol-free craft beer without the need for artificial removal of alcohol.
The 2018 contract with a leading supermarket chain will require Big Drop, which moved production from a small-batch brewer in Bermondsey to Sussex-based own-label specialist Hepworth, to scale up production from 10,000 litres per month to some 40,000 litres.
Production moved to Black Sheep Brewery after a deal was agreed with Keystone Brewing Group, announced December 2024.

330ml can as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light to mid-gold and clear with a ring and small layer of white head. Metallic aroma, some floral notes, a little bit of soap. Bittersweet aroma, floral hoppy notes, still very soapy. Bitterness in the long finish. Weird.

440ml can aspart of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Can is a gusher, but I saved most of it. Middle-of-the-road gold with a film of white head. Light grassy and caramel aroma, some orange peel and bubblegum, not getting a lot of hop. Bitter taste with sturdy medicinal hop notes in the finish. A bit disappointing really.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Clapton Craft. Pours clear yellow with a foamy, white head. Lightly sweet with simple pale grains, bread, nips of lemon rind, straw, faint grass, dough. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Alright balance to finish, more pale grains, basic bread, subtly bitter hay. Quite simple overall but drinkable.

330ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light yellow, almost straw and clear with a ring of white head. Some garbage in the aroma, overripe fruit notes.taste is better, mildly sour with some light citrus. Gets strange and compost-y again in the finish. Light body and carbonation. Not so good.

330ml can as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light to mid-yellow gold with a very thin film of white head. Light notes of grass and fresh citrus on the enticing aroma. Sweet taste, but not overly so, with a bit of citrus hop adding bitterness to the finish. A little bit of carbonation adds to the body. A very good pale, alcohol or no.

330ml can as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Dark, almost brownish gold with a full white head. Caramel and slightly metallic aroma with hints of cheap marmalade. Sweet taste, very corny and a little bit cheap but unlimited drinkable. Think body with medium to heavy carbonation. It's reasonable especially for a low alcohol lager.

330ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery. It's light yellow and clear with a little film/ring of white head. Really lovely taste, sweet and grainy with a reasonable amount of hop bitterness in the finish. Bit of a gluey aftertaste. Pretty basic lager, although the low alcohol doesn't seem to detract from it at all.

330ml can from a delivery from the brewery. Drunk at home. Dark gold and clear with a little ring of white head. Caramel notes in the malt-led aroma, a little bit of hop. Bitter taste with an almost medicinal character in the finish. Light to medium carbonation. Not as thin a body as you usually find on low alcohol beers. It really isn't bad but there isn't a lit to it either. A little disappointing. I'm not missing the alcohol but it tastes like a supermarket beer rather than anything more imaginative.
