33 cl. bottle split by 3 @ “Memorabel Tastingkje”. Procured from Delhaize. BBF 23/07/2016. So this is the new beer by Jean-Marie Rock – the man that created the modern Orval (a beer that I have a borderline obsession with) – that I have been waiting forever for. I am the first to rate it – even though apparently it has been available for like 3 years in the UK unbeknownst to me. All of the marketing talks about this being an extinct recipe brought back to life using modern brewing techniques but no further specification as to what the recipe may or may not be or what makes it interesting. Odd marketing but it seems like they are keeping it like that out of fear that someone will copy the recipe, bit of an odd piece of marketing anyway. In the end all that maters is the beer itself. Pours a surprisingly light citrus golden, hear is spare touch of-white fading bubbles. Smell is unusual & atypical hops, citrus, zest, plenty of grass, cereal, wild herb garden, unusual but pleasant. Taste is totally different from what you would expect from the nose, highly unusual as well, very clean, light, airy carbonation, light white sugar, banana, faint honey, lots & lots of ginger here, brief taste before the long bitter finish starts, finish is bitter grass, ginger, ether, hospital anaesthesia, bitter hops, almost touch saison like, the heavy hospital & ginger notes, this is perfectly crafted but the taste is very far out and really took some getting used to. This is definitely unlike any other Belgian blond beer out there, I almost respect it more than I like it & cannot see myself drinking this all of the time like I do with Orval but this is definitely something else. Interesting.

Clear light yellow beer, big aery white irregular head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very yeasty, lots of spices, ginger, some lemon peel, orange peel, bit sweet and sugary. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, ginger again, orange peel, yeast, citrus, some dairy. Aftertaste: very spicy, hay, straw, citrus, ginger, some banana. Mediocre at best.
