Looks, smells, and tastes just like an German wheat. No surprises...........

This beer is copper-colored with a medium light beige head. Minimal lacing. The aroma is lightly malty with some caramel as well. Medium-bodied, and not overly sweet like some Marzens tend to be, which I appreciated. Good malt flavor that was not too thick or syrupy. As a matter of fact it was very drinkable and complemented my food well. Maybe not the best example of the style, but I'd get it again.

Not overly complex, but it does pack a punch like any doppelbock should. Great amber color with apartment wall-colored head. Decent smooth finish despite the alcohol flavor. Malt and caramel undertones. Not too bad.

Sweeter than I expected, this is still an attractive and refreshing Hefe-Weissbier. Started drinking it with a warm meal, not a good idea - much better on its own or with a light snack. Enormous long-lasting head, pleasant but not very strong aroma. Flavour has all the good elements a beer of this style should have, a bit too sweet though. Rerate: Sweetness does not come through quite as much this time. Lovely aroma. A good hefe!

Rerate: Bottled, BB 09.14, large sample. Clear amber to copper color, short lasting light brown head. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, hint of roast, earthy and spicy hop. Slight sweet in taste, bit bitter. Finishes quite dry and bitter. Wonderful example of a doppelbock. 3.7 Original rate back in 2002: Nice doppelbock. Clear brown color, a bit too clear i think. Bit smoked taste added to the typical doppelbock. 3.7 --- Beer merged from original tick of Salvator on 27 Sep 2019 at 21:10 - Score: 8. Chestnut brown, clear. Soft with banana notes. Very similar to a hefeweizen.

Dark chestnut; lots of phenols on the nose - the wrong kind (band-aids), plus banana esters; some toastiness emerges later with more sweet banana. A little too weizen-like, needs more rye character.

Quite smooth, and a bit sweet. Nice hoppy aroma. On the whole pretty light though.

Just a flat out world class lager. Even out of the bottle, this is great, but it made me yearn for those pics of German beer halls where happy people are swigging a bright golden lager with a giant frothy head from extra large mugs. Experty balanced, with no shortage of maltiness and a nice hop aroma lingering in the empty glass. One of the world's best lagers.

Rerate: Strongly sweet, candyish. Caramel nose. Pale brown color, fading head. Perhaps too sweet. Too much alcohol in the finish. In a session that included various moderate strength beers, it stood out for its lack of drinkability.
