Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2019 vintage bottle. Aroma is fairly cherry forward with lighter notes of lemon and hints of under ripe stone fruit. Light cracker malt and wheat notes. Light herbal, earthy funk and hints of oak. Pours a hazy, dull, golden orange with a small, thin, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit before disappearing. Flavor is somewhat acidic with hints of sweet cracker malt and wheat notes. Low bitterness and hints of alcohol. Moderate cherry notes with hints of lemon and other stone fruit. Light herbal, earthy phenolic notes with hints of oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer with solid cherry notes and not too much acidity. Lots of the base De Troch lambic character.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2019 vintage bottle. Aroma has light citrus notes with hints of stone fruit. Medium light earthy, herbal funk with a definite wasabi note to it. Hints of grain, wheat and oak. Pours a hazy, copper-orange with a small, moderately thick, white head that recedes quickly and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a moderate acidity and light grain and wheat notes. Light lemon and under ripe stone fruit notes. Faint bitterness with hints of oak and alcohol. Moderate herbal, grassy phenolic notes with some wasabi notes and hints of spice. Light floral note and light musty funk. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty decent OWA lambic. I think they do a better job with their herbs and spices than they do with their fruit (possibly because it's less heavy handed).

Poured from a 2019 vintage, 375 ml bottle. Aroma is fruit forward with nice plum notes and hints of citrus. Medium light floral notes and hints of earthy, herbal funk. Faint oak notes with light wheat and grain. Pours a hazy, bright, yellow-orange with a small, thin, white head that recedes to the edges and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor is fairly acidic with medium light sweetness and light wheat and grain notes. Light oak notes with hints of herbal, earthy phenolics. Moderate plum notes and a light mousey note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent lambic but I don't love the mousey, cereal note in the flavor. It might get better with age, but right now the fruit note is a bit off.

7.2/10 Appearance 8 Aroma 7 Flavor 7 Texture 8 Overall 7
Poured from a 375 ml bottle, 2019 vintage. Aroma is rather fruit forward with quite a bit of kumquat character. Lighter earthy, spicy, phenolic notes with hints of oak. Light wheat and malt notes. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a medium sized, medium thick, pillowy white head that recedes steadily to the edges where it lingers in clumps. No lacing or legs. Flavor is fairly acidic, especially into the finish with a hint of sweetness and a light wheat and malt note. Light bitterness with hints of oak and alcohol. Light earthy, herbal phenolic notes. Fairly strong, assertive, kumquat note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright lambic but the kumquat note is just too overpowering, especially in the flavor. The kumquat also adds a bit more acidity than I prefer in my lambics and has an almost oily, chemical character to it.

Pours unclear yellow to amber, no sign of any carbonation at all. Scent is intense, sharp, acetic, tart, oak, fruity backbone (tart fruits ) nothing hints of sweetness, or a complex, refined lambic, for that matter. Taste is very tart, acetic, sharp, lemontartness (intense! ) very earthy. Fruityness is mild, since the sourness takes over completely. Earthy, acetic, lemontart finish. No carbonation. Honestly, this isn't lambic. I dont care who brewed it, or what ingredients and processes were used. Lambic is about balance and complexity, refined flavors and drinkability. This is drinkin' acid, resembling closer to an ' American 'lambic inspired' failure. This is Upland 'lambic' all over again, which is a shame, since i've had a much better impression from Owa before.
