Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

Bottle from Japan Centre, London. It pours clear mahogany brown with a small off-white head. The nose is toasty grain, brown bread, mild spice, cereal and wet cardboard. The taste is bitter-sweet, raisin, wood, toasted brown bread, earth, caramel and light alcohol with a dry finish. Light-medium and fine carbonation. Not much to it. Fine, but far from exciting.

Bottle 706/1000. Very nice floral nose. Biscuits? Pumpkin, spices, fresh. The beer starts very spicy-fruity. Pumpkin-spice, clove, Christmas-spices. Very great and smooth. Not too sour. The aftertaste is long, herbs, fresh-floral, very nice.

The aroma has some light cherry notes as well as some biscuit malt and, unfortunately, citrus cleaner. The flavor is full of cherries with some toffee and sugar notes with flowery, artificial notes. There is a light bit of tartness. The beer is very easy to drink. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Interesting beer, but not my cup of tea.

2013 bottle. Pretty golden color, cloudy, decent head. Nose is ume, dust, leather, lemon. Tart flavor, medium acidity, ume, vanilla, leather, old books. Like this, the plums work well, though the lambic base is a bit simple.

Nose is fantastically sour, plum, slightly auster, light. The mouth is a bit more malty than expected, but still fantastic. Long sour finish.

750ml c/o Travlr. Highly unique. Very mellow. Earthy cherry bark tones. Just excellent. Supremely quaffable. Leafy, earthy, very smooth and easy cherry tones. No test tube sour tones. Filtered, translucent body. Cherry vanilla tones. So drinkable, on a different side of lambic. Vanilla and cherry, but very natural. Subtle and delicate. World Class.

2013 bottle from the brewer. Big nose of sakura mochi. It’s got cherry, but more the leaves than the fruit, a bit salty, confectioner’s sugar, and I even get rice cakes, though that might just be me, associating two smells naturally. Underneath, there is some grapefruit, dust, leather, and horse blanket. Lambic character is rather mild, however. Deep golden with a medium head that goes quickly to lace. Flavor is moderately sour, with grapefruit and lemon, leather and horse blanket, and then that sakura mochi flavor, which is cherry and confectioners sugar on rice, with a bit of spice. A bit salty too. Very nice, though I would take it a touch more sour. Decent body, though not as crisp as I would like. Overall a very interesting and unique lambic that is very good but could be better with a drier, more matured and sour lambic base.
