Description
We have been brewing beer for beer lovers since 1994. The brewery was founded in the city of Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands) which is situated at the banks of the Eastern Scheldt (Dutch: Oosterschelde). In 2008 the brewery moved to the city of Hoogstraten in Antwerp Province, just across the Belgian border with The Netherlands. There we continued to brew well balanced beers, classic Belgian with a modern touch. Many characteristics still refer to our birthplace. Our mascot the crab is also the mascot of Bergen op Zoom and the two so called ‘wild men’ are shown in the flag and coat of arms of the city since 1622. These wild men are still shown on all our labels, portraying the different beer names.

Every sip of Scheldebeer has been brewed in our own brewery, build with love and care. We are ambitious brewers who prefer craft beers with a sense of the past and a taste of the present. True to traditions but always looking for an exciting balance between nostalgic and new, modest and daring. Our beers are unfiltered, unpasteurized and have bottle refermentation. Besides from all the natural ingredients we hope you'll taste patience and devotion in all the flavours. Cheers!

Pours a clear, medium colored gold. Big white stable head. Scent is be yeast, relatively mild. Taste is sharp, strong yesst profile, medium bitter, sweet finish. A very 13-in-a-dozen beer and i would be far from surprised if this were a label beer. Nothing off, but surely boring and not giving any added value to the saturated market.

Dorada algo turbia, con espuma abundante de aspecto jabonosa, retención correcta. Marcado aroma a plátano. En boca es ligera, algo oleosa, de amargor notable, y sabor frutal con claro predominio de plátano, algo de albaricoque y notas especiadas y jengibre. Sabrosa.

Taste: malty, a little fruity, some citrus, bitter, ok. Aftertaste: bitter, fruity, orange peel, unpleasant bitterness, malty, grains, meh. Not really an IPA now, is it?

Scheldebrouwerij, having sensed the winds of change in the beer world a bit late, seems to use their standard strong blonde ‘n Toeback for single hop variants apparently – this one using a new (2024) dual purpose variety developed by Yakima Chief Hops. Thanks tderoeck for sharing. Egg-white, foamy, thick and stable, regular head on an initially clear, pale orangey peach blonde robe with dots of yeast bits creating haziness further on. Aroma of stale orange juice, lemon bread, overripe peach, some banana, sweat, fruit porridge, margarine, milk going sour. Sweet onset, banana ester, a tad bubblegummy, mixed with peach and pear hints, medium carbonated with slick body, a tad oily even; cereally and lightly biscuity maltiness with retronasal sweaty accents disturbing the hops a bit, which are displayed in a promising, orange- and mango-evoking, but eventually rather ‘muffled’ way, bittering adequately but aromatically not being allowed to shine as brightly as they should. The alcohol, on the other hand, remains remarkably well hidden. I believe in the potential of this new Krush hops, but this beer does not seem to be able to do them justice. Drinkable postmodern Belgian, sure, but in need of more ‘oomph’ and brightness.
