Bottle. I see that Newcastle put black ale on the label. Must be because most Americans don’t really appreciate mild ales. I myself love mild ales and think this is a really good one. Deep brown, tan head. Very mild roasted aroma and taste. It is really good for the style.

Bottle. Light to to medium brown with a medium, quickly disappearing head. Aromas of toffee and hay. Taste was toffee up front with a bitter finish.

Bottle. Dark golden in color with hardly any head. Aroma and taste were very well balanced with a slight sweet upfront taste and a clean finish.

sweet malty aroma, slight english hops, and some caramel tinges. Flavour is hoppy, and caramel, with some biscuit malt flavours. A good bitter, refreshing, and very drinkable. good session ale.

Cask at The Crown Inn, Berkshire. As "Edinburgh Castle". Aroma is malty, caramel, lots of toffee, a bit buttery. Flavour is almost moderate sweet and light bitter. Body is light to medium. Quite dull malty toffee ale, not for me.
