Bouteille 341ml.

Originally rated April 2005. Bought a six-pack of this at the "Trappe à Fromage" in Gatineau, Quebec, containing five 341ml brown bottle and one Saint Arnould glass. This is really a micro, as the bottle caps are the generic you buy at the homebrew store and has that dent in it when you do it by hand. Looking forward to my first Saint Arnould experience. Pours a hazy yellow-white colour with a very white silky head, and foamy lacing. The nose is yeasty like a witbier, but nice and light. The carbonation is heavy and the taste is quite different at first, as it is very sour. The aftertaste then turns grainy and smooth. Interesting... a mixture of pale lager and witbier it seems to me. Worth a try !

Sample from a friend’s bottle served a little colder than cellar temperature. Poured somewhat hazy copper with a small tan head. Aroma mostly like a tub of pale malt extract with a bit of yeast. Taste was thin, sweet pale and caramel malts with yeast diacetyl and almost no hops or spiciness to speak of. Finish again thin, sour, acidic, faded almost instantly. Mouthfeel was very light for a Belgian, with low carbonation. Bland, disappointing, not enjoyed by any of us who sampled it.

Bouteille 341ml.

Originally rated August 2005. Pours an amber-orange colour with a tanned creamy-foam head. Retention is pretty good and lacing is small, but apparent. Can smell caramel malt with hints of fruits. Thin mouthfeel. The taste is very different. Find some roasted malt, some herbs, some bread and some hop. Hard to describe. Not really my cup of tea.

Originally rated August 2005. Looked clean through the bottle, but saw deposits in there hidden. Shook the bottle lightly, and the brew poured a cloudy light golden colour. The head was very small, and no retention or lace came out of it. Mild sour aroma with some yeast. Thin mouthfeel and citrus taste with a tad vanilla. Pretty light overall, also being a 4% ABV.

Originally rated September 2005. This stronger ale from St. Arnould pours a cloudy amber, more on the orange side. The head is medium, so is the retention and the lacing left is very small. Spices are mild, but are there in the scent. Smooth, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Quite mild overall. The finish is the best part of the mouth. The spices come out to play. Then, a mild aftertaste comes again. Just missing something.
