Bottle shared by brewer. Pours brownish with a slight head. Aroma of roasty malt and light smoke. Med body or better. Flavor is chocolate, citrus, smoke, pine, treacle? Actually rather clean given the flavors, and it comes out much like a hoppy schwarzbier. :)

Sample at SF Beer Week Opening Gala 2014. (my first one from this brewery) Hazy orange/amber with a small head. Wood, citrus, some light earth. The body was light and the finish was quite sour. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Bottle is at least a couple years old.Aroma is fairly fruity with some dark berry and cherry notes as well as dark figs. Light chocolate and toasted bread malt notes with hints of acidity. It smells better than I was expecting based on the previous review with no sign of condiments. Pours a dark murky brown with a very thin light tan head that has surprisingly good retention considering its just a few bubbles from pouring this beer a foot above the glass. Oddly enough, this is also the first beer that hissed when I removed the wax to get to the cap; I don?t think it likes me. Faint lacing and no legs. Flavor has a hint of sweetness that quickly turns acidic. Moderate lactic acidity but also quite a bit of acetic acid. Medium light notes of cherries, berries and figs. Finish does have an odd malt character with a bit of toastiness that doesn?t blend great with the acidity. Lingering fruit, acetic acid and toasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low to low carbonation. Moderate acidic astringency with medium low alcohol warmth. Overall about what I was expecting. The aroma was good but the flavor was acetic and the fruit was a bit washed out. I hope my sink is thirsty.

Bottle, 75cl. A very dark brown beer, unclear, with a dense, two-finger light beige head. There’s some cherry on the nose, along with roasted malts, bretty fruityness, lemon hints and a cellar-ish touch. Lasting flavor with cherries blending well with the roasted malts. Some berry hints, a faint salty hint and some bretty hints. Medium body, pleasant carbonation. Lasting finish with some salty hints, roasted malts and cherries. Actually, this beer is a winner. Both tasteful and wonderful. proof that you won’t find all the gems in the bigger breweries. This is what keeps me going. 130811
