Bottle from Liquor Mountain. Deep amber-orange, cloudy, with a medium head. Rather faint nose, some banana, more apple, wheat, grain, clove. Somewhat disappointing. Flavor is sweet malt, light caramel, brown sugariness is quite obvious, low clove, some banana. Way, way too sweet and sugary. Cloying as hell. Yeast also seem to be wrong--their regular house yeast instead of a proper weizen yeast. Big disappointment.

First is my Liquor a Mountain find: Nagahama Weizenbock 8% Deep honey amber in color with a thick dense beige head. The aroma is sweet honey cloves while the taste gives a bit of booze then a honey graham flavor with spicy cloves. Decent medium to full body. Alright.

Cloudy weather means darker beers! I saw this in the taplist for Ibaraki Bakuon and also found it at Liquor Mountain: Nagahama Imperial Stout Motor oil pour with a tan head with a great roasty toasty aroma that is very appealing. Smooth velvety body but a bit too light bodied. Decent flavor with light roast and bitter cacao (60-70%), it pairs well with chocolate. A very solid beer but a tad light for an imperial stout, I’ll buy this again and more evidence Nagahama is slowly upping their game.

Can from Seijo Ishii. Aroma is nice. Citrus and grassy hoppiness. Taste is not as nice, but it's alright. Citrus again, sweet maltiness some minerals. Bit thin, but much much better than the flying ipa. Not as good as Captain Crow still though.

Tap at Thrash Zone. Amber coloured, not much off-white head. Aroma is gherkins, citrus hops, fruity. Cherry and sweetness, caramel element but subtle. Taste bit gherkin, quite weird. Pretty nice. I love gherkins. (Had probably drunk too much at this stage).

I spotted this at Liquor Mountain and the name has me thinking it was made for Father’s Day. Nagahama Papa Leaf Hop Pils 6% Saaz Leaf Dry-Hopping Gold with a soapy thick white head of foam and soft herbal sweet saaz aroma. Medium bodied with a crisp finish. This is pretty solid and enjoyable, a nice beer as a treat or to bring to a BBQ to wow your hosts with the champagne type format. Fancy looking. As it warmed I puked it less though.

750 ml bottle. Nose is caramel and yuzu. Clouody brown color. Quite bitter, yuzu and caramel, sweet. Nicely effervescent in this corked and caged bottle. Malt is too big in caramel, which deadens the fruit, but interesting.

Tap at Craft House Kyoto. Fruity, honey nose, citrus, tart. Cloudy bright golden color with a high head. Flavor is sweet and sour, lemony, champagne, honey, malts. Interesting. Sweet but also tart, a bit overly simple but also likeable.

This popped open with some smoke then a huge gush of brown beer. A tip, if it’s corked and caged open the beer by the sink. Nagahama Big Bad Bear Brown Ale 6.5% The head on this beer was huge and stacked up like a mound of pillows topping the rim of the glass and leaving lots of lacing behind. The aroma is fruity, nutty, a bit sweet with some roastedness. The beer is quite full bodied but finishes dry and has a raspy carbonation. Thev taste is fruity, nutty and roasty like the aroma but adds a bit of smoke in the finish and maybe even some Brett funk (which could explain the funk). I like it, I’m not sure if I got a “good” bottle or if time gave the Yeast time to sort the beer out somewhat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Liquor Mountain. Roasty, chocolate, peat. Pretty strong peat. Hazy dark brown with lace. Very peaty, nice chocolate malt, caramel, minerals. The iodine #like peat is a bit overwhelming. Not just too much for me, but too peaty for the style as well. Body is a bit thin.
