Russet brown with beige foam and a perfumey biscuit and caramel aroma. Medium bodied, the taste is lightly roasty caramel maltiness with hints of butterscotch. It’s ok.

Tap at the brewery. Clear, bright golden with a thick head. Very hoppy nose, citrus and grass, hint of plums, wheat malt. No clove or banana notes. Big hop flavor, wheat, crisp flavor, almost like a lager yeast. Totally different to the one I had 4 years ago, a Kristalweizen heavily hopped with a Polish varietal, and hints of plum. Good one.

Tap at the brewery. Pitch black with a thick tan head. Roasted malt nose, with chocolate, berries, vanilla. Bourbon notes in the flavor, berry and grapes, vanilla, cacao, roasted wood. Not too sweet or heavy. Possibly the best beer I have had from them.

Tap at Nagahama Brewery. Red-orange amber to brown with a thick, fine head. Rather faint, fruity nose, cherry and caramel. Light, fruity flavor, caramel, iron, light chocolate. Creamy, light, silky body. Decently made, not much going on.

Nagahama Kurokabe Stout 5% It said limited brewing at Liquor Mountain so I picked one up. Deep inky black with thick tan foam that lingers and a roasty dark toasted oats aroma. Medium to full bodied with lots of dark bitter chocolate, toasted notes and it’s quite smooth overall. Pretty solid though the aftertaste does get a touch acrid.

Nagahama Pineapple Ale 5% Nice matte gold with a big pillowy head of foam and a surprisingly mild pineapple aroma. Very beer like and totally an earthy/fruity ale with a bitter edge. This year I saw LOADS of pineapple beers and in the past they were always syrupy sweet but this year the pineapple had been very light and subtle. Ok.

Awesome sunny weather had me thinking I should crack open a beer… Nagahama Belgian Saison 5% Dark yellow gold with big soapy foam which didn’t linger at all. The aroma is spicy white pepper saison/wheat notes. Medium bodied and pretty smooth the taste adds lemongrass or lemon peel flavors. Quite smooth. Definitely one of the better Nagahama beers.

Couldn’t resist half-price! Nagahama Berry Ale 5% Apparently made with a berry purée which includes blackberries, blueberries, cassis and strawberries. Purplish amber pink type berry color with a dense dirty-purple-white foam and a decent sweet berry aroma with very mild tartness. Medium bodied with a slightly rough sharp carbonation. The taste has elements of sweet blueberries with tart blackberries and cassis. Overall not bad, at 330¥ it’s solid value at 660¥ it’d be a bit more iffy in terms of satisfying folks. I will say though, if this had been a summer release I think it would’ve all sold out.

Poured a cloudy gold with a medium head. Nice saison nose, spicy, herbal, citrus, bready malts. Flavor is more muddled, sweet and fruity, totally lacking crispness, flabby. Not terrible, but the nose was so much better.
