Can from Liquor Mountain. Doughy nose, clove, dandy. Sweet, spicy flavor, a bit of banana, some sweet peach, biscuit. Orange-gold color with a tall head. Not bad, but a bit too sweet and candyish.

35cl can from a supermarket in Yokohama. Pours clear deep golden to amber. Hoppy aroma with pine, citrus, notes of tropical fruits and malt. Medium to moderate sweet with nice hoppy flavours and a fine bitterness. Tasty, refreshing and fairly balanced IPA.

Can (brewed at Echigo apparently and not the brewery where the bottles and tap come from) from Seijoishii. Huge citra bomb nose: mango, grapefruit, papaya and pineapple dominate the nose throughout. Nice medium body with good carbonation throughout. Fairly well-balanced but towards the end of the can the bitterness starts to become more intense. From the can, maybe the best hop nose on a beer outside of Y. Market. Still solid enough and with a little tweaking on the bittering hops could give Captain Crow a run for best can in Japan. Nice effort. --- Beer merged from original tick of Nagahama Roman Nagahama IPA Special on 14 Feb 2016 at 14:04 - Score: 7. Original review text: Guys seriously this is better than expected. Punchy y. Market tropical nose, yes it's a tad too bitter but that's ok. Not bad.

Bottle from the Brewery picked up as an omiyage for my wife at Craft Beer Live 2015. It pours a lovely cloudy gold with a big bready banana weizen nose with fruity clove notes. A bit light bodied. The taste is somewhat cardboard, see and tart with bready banana & light clove notes. A fairly decent weizen that I look forward to trying on tap sometime.

Tap. big around of their house yeast, dry stone fruits, peaches, oranges. Strong bitterness, yeasty. A decent beer, but I don’t see how it is so different from all their other ales.

Nagahama IPA special On tap at the crazily crowded Kyoto Beer Fest 2015. 5.5% a deep Amber gold with a foamy off-white head. The hop bouquet is solid: fruity and lightly floral. Medium bodied with a dry hoppy finish. The taste is a well balanced fruitiness with a crisp dry bitter finish. Good. Kind of saison like. ----Bottle 10/15/2015 ----- Nagahama IPA Special 5.5% Bottle from Liquor Mountain Razkan. It pours a clear brilliant copper with a thick foamy off-white head. It’s got a fruity hop bouquet, some clove like spiciness and some herbacious ness. Flavor: It’s got a hard to pin down spice character that is midway between cinnamon & cloves. You also get decent sweetness from the malts. Med-light bodied with a crisp finish. Alright for about 550 yen.

On tap at Ibaraki Bakuon. A clear amber brown with a light beige head. The aroma is a big fruity caramel. The taste is very estery cloves, sharp fruitiness and an acidic finish. Not at all an alt like but an ok beer. Maybe somewhat too in your face sharp flavored.

Bottle from Liquor Mountain. Where else? So, they finally got around to releasing an Alt-type. Spicy, vegetal yeast nose, light roast, caramel, corn. Deep amber orange color, tall bubbly head. Slightly roasty flavor, spicy, earthy as hell. Grass and hay. Quite bitter finish. Not sure what makes it an alt. Weirdly nasty nose, though drinkable. I am sick of this yeast they have.
