Patrick picked up homebrewing as a hobby, later to become an obsession, as a distraction to the banality of law school. Soon he was winning numerous awards for his beers and driving his wife, Rachel, mad with the messes that he would leave on the kitchen stove. Upon finishing school, he took it upon himself to draw up a business plan rather than study for the California Bar exam – a risky endeavor that shows through still today in the creative, genre-tilting beers that The Bruery prides itself on.
The Bruery is founded on the excitement that Patrick felt in those first years of homebrewing and we continue to strive for that same passion in every aspect of our business today. We never stop challenging ourselves to develop distinctive & imaginative beers, constantly pursuing improvement in all that we do. We brew dozens of original beers each year with our list of ingredients and inspirations growing perpetually. Our collection of oak barrels has also become a primary element of our brewery. Nearly half of our beer is aged in wine or spirit barrels bringing forth flavors reminiscent of the Belgian countryside or classic American distillers.

courtesy of ibrew2or3 Pours hazy golden with thick white head. Aroma spicy, fruity and yeasty. Taste, floral hops, thick mouthfeel with very faint notes of the basil herb. Very smooth and light, drinks like a saison. Re-rate 4/14/2009, courtesy of Alan. Picked up a much nice nose and taste of basil and sweet rice.Tons of good spices, very herbal with light notes of citrus.

Bottle from Bottle Trek. Ruby copper color with a large tan head. Aromas suggesting a quad. Dark stuff and yeast. Some heat, but not much. Medium plus body with smooth carbonation. Flavor is quad malt/yeast appropriate, with hints of pear and dark fruit. Burns just slightly. Finish goes mildly sweet to dry. It’s not Westy 12, but close enough to claim the style. Drink it.

Rating number 1300. Picture sent in to be uploaded. Bottle thanks to Patrick at the Bruery, I really appreciate it! Pours with a small white head that goes quick and can never be tempted into returning at all. Pretty orange body underneath. Room filling aroma of bourbon, with vanilla, oak, fruit, honey and orange blossom on closer inspection. Taste is all about the bourbon. Still very hot with butterscotch, vanilla, toast, and orange peel. Warming, light bubbles and syrupy, really pleasant.

Bottle shared by Odeed. Nose of brown sugar, sweet potatoes, nutmeg, and cloves. Clear copper brown with a very small offwhite head. Flavor of sweet Thanksgiving yams made with brown sugar, and marshmallows for sweetness combined with the spiciness.

Bottle from South Bay Drug. Nice ruby color with transient tan bubbles. Spicey pie aroma. Medium body with very mild carbonation. It’s rather sweet, but there is yam flavor, and a lot of spice. Maybe clove. There’s noticeable heat. Finishes yammy. Spicey. Damn drinkable.

750ml bottle-pours a foamy/bubbly white head and cloudy straw yellow color with sediment. Aroma is yeast, citrus-tart lemon, perfumy, some oat, spice. Taste is initially blast of tart and effervescence followed by yeast, citrus-tart lemon, perfumy, some oat, spice, some champagne character included. Dry finish. Interesting. Thanks mfielden & jwc215 for sharing this.
