Box @ Cellar, Chester. Pours a deep red, lots of raspberry on the nose. Has quite an appealing creamy raspberry ripple character with more than a hint of Mr Kiplings vienesse whirl about it. Really surprised to like this as much as I did, perhaps because it tastes different to any other raspberry flavoured cider I've tried.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Oh, this is fun. Not the looks mind - it's flat, hazy, very pale yellow, and put me in mind of a urine sample from an athletics drugs cheat. The smell is pure rhubarb and custard sweets. They're one of the few sweets I like, so I was ok with this, if a little afraid it would be overly sweet, sticky and fake. However the taste is a lot better. There's a real cooked rhubarb taste in there, plus lots of vanilla, giving something of a homemade rhubarb crumble flavour. The rhubarb and custard sweets are still there too, but with the real rhubarb and a hint of sharpness in there they feel like an artisan take on the original sweet. It is still very sweet, but stays just the right side of the line so that it's not actually sickly sweet. There's no hint of the cider in this, but the real rhubarb flavour gives it a degree of respectability that puts it above alcopops. It's a good pudding drink to finish the night on, and it left me with a smile on my face. Nice one!
