Description
The initiators are Jan and Alie de Vries. Jan de Vries started brewing beer at home in 1981. In 2014, the step was taken to a commercial brewery

The brewing is done on a small scale and in an artisanal way, using as many organic raw materials as possible. In the beginning, around 150 litres were brewed at a time, since 2021 300 litres. The hops are also grown locally as much as possible. The recipe is as traditional as possible, often with a historical (local) link, and all recipes are in the idiosyncratic hand of the brewer. In addition to the regular range, special one-off variations are brewed regularly.

8/IV/19 - 33cl bottle @ John's place, BB: VI/2018 - (2019-446) Thanks to John for sharing the bottle!
Clear red brown beer, small creamy irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: in the bottle lots of vanilla, in the glass vinegar up front, after standing a while, I'm getting more dried fruits, caramel, whisky touch. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, malty, lots of vanilla, dried fruits, green apples, bourbon, nice one. Aftertaste: bit oxidized, sourish, dried fruits, tobacco, soft bitterness.

Wooden jar (stenen kruik) @ 77ships aftertasting after Billies 2018. Amber color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, somewhat boozy, caramelised sugars, some sharp edges so to speak. Unbalanced. Meh. 6-3-5-2-9 = 2.5. // Edit: better a day later. The sharp edges seem to have gone so it's much more drinkable. Would now rate it around a 3 a think.

Clear red brown beer, big creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: banana, malty, caramel, dried fruits, more fruity notes, some dark chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bitter start, then acidic, bit fruity, some caramel, lots of alcohol. Aftertaste: more alcohol, soft malty touch, hint of chocolate. Not very convincing.

Dark brown with thin head. The aroma is nice with some chocolatey notes. Flavour is a bit weak and there's a light sourness and a thin body.
