Cask@JDW, Hoylake. A dark brown ruby tinged affair with a medium sized foamy, lingering tan head. Aroma was candy sweet with fruit and coconut notes. Flavour was pretty decent, once again sweetish, with plenty of roast and chocolate, tasty hop bitterness mingling nicely with.... yes sir, some coconut. Liked it plenty. Cask at The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon 10-04-10 in company of Craig and family and Loz of course. Pours amber with a small white head. Got to be honest I was bitterly dissapointed with this expectation was hig but reality was that it was pretty poor, in its defecnce it was getting towards the end of the cask so I was told, but still it had such little taste, no real bite, the fruitiness that was there was really shallow, in fact it was like everything in the aroma and flavour department had been turned down to zero, hoppy profile was lacking, aroma was pretty non-existent apart for a vague chemical taint (but to be fair that could have been a dishwashered glass) poor. Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 8/04/10. Gold in colour with a slight, white head. Butterscotch and honey aroma with a touch of grassy hop. Flavour was sickly sweet to the point of being unpleasant, with butter malts and a short, bitter finish. my least favourite beer of the current festival by a considerable margin.

Cask-conditioned at the Shakespeare’s Head (JDW), Kingsway 9/04/10 at 5% ABV. Near black in colour with a decent, tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coconut, roasted malts and rum. Flavour was sweet, with plenty more coconut and chocolate, and black coffee leading to a dry finish. Enjoyable, but a half pint was probably enough - the coconut was becoming more prominent by the end of the glass.
