Opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Palate is airy and soft with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, no roast or bitterness. Mellow dark chocolate and lightly tangy dark fruits. Whisper of spice. Nice mild vanilla oak. Finishes smooth. Nicely joined up and very drinkable.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with a thin dark tan head, milk chocolate and roast malt aroma, taste has milk chocolate, some lactose sweetness, coconut, roasted malts, light pine hop.

On tap at Man in the Moon. Hazy golden with a white head. Citrus, mango, hay and some biscuits. Relaxed and quite tasty.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury and drunk at home. Black beer with thick lasting tan head. Now I don’t get a lot of coconut nor a lot of Black IPA. Coconut milk I suppose on the aroma, then chocolate in the mouth. To be honest with the addition of the coconut (milk?) it’s more like a milk stout than a black IPA. OK though. Not my thing.

Bottle at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, thanks to LKS, 09/05/14, 211th CDA rated - only the 4th person to achieve this milestone! Black with a moderate tan swirl and edgework. Nose is red berry fruit, light spice, pine, roasty tones, earthy cocoa powder. Taste comprises red berry fruit, tropicana, light roast, pine, bitter grapefruit. Medium + body, fine carbonation, trace of booze in the close. Solid CDA.

Bottle 330ml. @ [ The pre Fastelavn Smagning - Carnival Tasting, Ulfborg ]. [ As Weird Beard Heaven and Hell batch 2 ].Hazy matt medium orange color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, dusty hops, grass, light alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, tropical fruit, dusty hops, mango, riped fruit - wood. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20140228]

Bottle at home, liberated from CBC Cov Gdn, 25/05/14. Black with a moderate tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, metallic nip, dark berry fruit, earthy cocoa, piney twang, milk chocolate. Taste comprises light roast, milk chocolate, faint coconut, light hop presence. Medium body, moderate carbonation, a little watery - sub standard palate on this one for me. So so CDA, limited hop presence and a little too thin on the palate.

Hazy golden beer with a frothy head. Aroma is citrus but sour whereas the flavour has a distinct sweet tang to temper the sourness. The hops could easily have been overpowering but they’ve been well balanced given this a flavour which is surprisingly rounded after the first sniff. Too strong for a session beer of course which is a shame because I think flavour-wise it’d be perfect for me!

Cask gravity at the Gun Docklands spring haze beer fest. Oily opaque black / dark caramel coloured pour with a fleeting loose tan head. Aroma is earthy roast barley, desecrated coconut, coconut oil. Hint of sweet choc in the nose as well. Flavour is smooth roast, sweet coconut, dark choc in the finish. Sweet and oily on the tongue. Fullish body. Smooth lingering roast. Moderate carbonation. Some berry fruits in the finish as well. Goes down nicely and the coconut isn’t too dominant.
