Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol 19/9/2013. Opaque and almost black in colour, with a tight, off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and a touch of grassy hop. Surprisingly full mouth feel for such a low ABV beer, with plenty of dark chocolate, a hint of lactose and roasty, dryish finish. Excellent.

500ml bottle. Clear orangey dark golden colour with average to huge, foamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Dry hoppy, fruity aroma has notes of gooseberry, cautious spicy, peppery, yeasty overtones. Taste is initially minimally sweet fruity and caramel malty, then dry, grainy, bready, unpleasantly bitter, a herbal touch, spicy, peppery, yeasty overtones. Inharmonic.

Blimey! I thought this might be fantastic. The none barrel aged version is really nice. This looks strangely mucky. Cola brown, no head. Aroma is tinned prunes. Very sweet. Can’t get on with this at all.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt with a hint of drying varnish! The flavour is medium bitter with a dry, spicy pepper, slightly medicinal palate. The first mouthful was a bit of a shock but improved greatly with a little exposure to the air.

Brewery tap takeover at Cask Pub & Kitchen, half pint, keg. Very hazy, dark body. Tiny head, fragile lacing. Smell of dried fruits, raisin and prunes can be spotted. The taste character is a potpourri of dried fruits like prunes, apricots plums and, even, raisin supported by vanilla sweetness. Long-lived bittersweet finish. Pleasant stuff (London 12.08.2013).

Half, cask ale at CP&K, Pimlico. Patchy surface over an unclear, amber coloured body. Hop fruity nose, semi-dry and lightly spiced. Fresh tropical fruits with a tasty touch of peaches and apricot with malty sweetness beneath. Dry bitter ending. Warming alcohol.Full bodied. Good sipper, rather heavy to drink though (London 12.08.2013).
