Very malty, sweet beer, both in aroma and flavor. Dark reddish, copper pour. Small-bubbled head that sticks around longer than average for a barley wine. Lots of lacing. Sugary aroma with notes of caramel and toffee and yeast. The flavor reveals hops, starting extremely sweet (caramel and pineapple) and ending with a bitter bite. Full body with smooth, creamy texture. Moderately long finish that leaves a bitter, acidic and peppery taste.

Dense, but thin head over a brownish body... Aromas of caramel, white grape and maybe a touch of spice in the form of coriander... it’s a pretty subtle nose, though. Flavor is very unique. As the hops and malt develop they take an unexpected turn towards an alcoholic grape alley that has a bit of an astringent bite to it... maybe a little bit chemical. If I were feeling more generous I would dismiss it as a smokey/peaty flavoring, but it goes a bit beyond that. While this may sound completely awful, in a strange way it works. I’m not going to rush out and buy ten cases of it, but I’ll probably get a hankering for it from time to time.

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a nice burgundy color ale with an above average foamy head with good retention. Aroma of sweet malt and some powerful hops. Taste has some caramel malt with some sweetness reminiscent of plums with an aftertaste that has some citrusy hops. Body is a bit too light for the style IMHO and alcohol was well hidden. Not bad overall but I generally like my barleywine to be more malt base then a hoppy affair.

Aromas are wonderful of pine and grapefruit with a floral background. Color is amber/orange with a massive (insanely large) foamy head that is currently obstructing my path to the beer below. Although the hops are clearly dominant in the aroma, they are a little more subdued in the flavor where they blend very well with a creamy, caramel flavoring from malt. This is much sweeter flavored than I would have guessed and a very interesting take on the IPA genre in the US. It’s much creamier than most and has a very silky texture.

Huge thanks to Odeed for this bottle - just when I thought I’d gotten tired of hop monsters, along comes this beauty - clear copper color with sticky, frothy white lace - the nose has quite a nice blend of aromatic hops, with a gentle fruity sweetness behind them - the flavor is filled with meaty, chewy, hops that are so earthy you can almost taste the soil they were growing in - quite bitter, but not dry - background light fruit (citrus, of course, and some mild cherry and strawberry), followed by a subdued, buttery/caramel flavor - oily throughout the flavor, and through the extremely bitter finish, leaving the mouth feeling like it is coated in hop resin - a hop head’s delight.

Draft. Rich amber color with an off-white head. Grapefruit aroma, but not as strong as many of the summit IPAs. Grapefruit and sweet malt flavor (sweeter than other summits). Some graininess at first (but maybe I got used to it as I didn’t get it at the end of the pint). Lingering bitterness.

Two inches of beer poured down the side gave 5 inches of Beige head; and a sour malty nose came from the Redish-amber body; flavor was fairly tart with caramel maltiness, but not any hops showing. Tart but not real sour, but not what I expected from an Irish ale!
