Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.

Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Hand-pulled half-pint at the 32nd Shrewsbury Beer Festival on 26th September 2024. Golden body, clean and bright, on top a white crust. Tropical fruit front, back and sides, pink grapefruit being the main player for me.

Hand-pulled half-pint at the 32nd Shrewsbury Beer Festival on 26th September 2024. Darwin's Original double dry hopped for extra aroma and hoppy bitterness, or just one of those reasons? Anyway it's a decent beer (and very similar to the base brew), didn't notice any aroma change but it was a little more dry and bitter in the mouth. Same spicy, malty undertones as the Original.

Hand-pulled half-pint at the 32nd Shrewsbury Beer Festival on 26th September 2024. Apparently this is Lemon Dream that has been tampered with. Extra lemon and lime juices added to the original beer after brewing. Only 8 barrels produced (no idea if that's 36 gallon barrels or just 8 firkins, or whatever). Anyway it's a clean and bright golden beer with a wispy white topping. Lemons and limes rule the nose and taste, as you'd expect from the pump clip description.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Boot on 27th September 2024. Slight haze in the golden body, white crown. Easy going brew with an orange and grape skin like main flavour, bordering on sweetness before a bitterness takes over before the finish.

Hazy gold with a frothy white head. Beautiful pale ale with peach and apricot on the nose, soft and mellow with lovely fruity notes and just the tiniest hint of bitterness
