Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.
Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

January 2018: 500 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 5.5%. Brown colour, slightly hazy. Huge and lasting off-white head. Malty aroma, hints of lightly roasted malts too, some fruity and piney hops. The flavour has also decent malts, but is rather dry. Fairly distinct piney and grapefruity (American?) hops. Decent beer, but the style is not very "British", nor very "Christmassy".

August 2018: Rerate, cask pint at The Beehive (JDW landside, South terminal, Gatwick Airport). ABV 4.5%. Golden colour, white head. Pleasant aroma and flavour of citrus / lemons, but not too sour. Decent hops, well balanced. Refreshing. I'm upping the score several points.
Original rating: Cask 1/3 pint, gravity dispense, at the 16th Twickenham Beer & Cider Festival. Pale golden colour, small white head. Moderate aroma of lemons. Lemony flavour all right, but not much more than that. Thin body.

Cask pint @ Salopian Brewery with my brother Andrew. Was busy chatting away and didn't give much attention to this unfortunately, but pours a clear gold, good white head. Quite crisp and fruity, sweet malt, some mild passionfruit notes, balanced sweet character.. decent.
