Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.
Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

On tap at Ebenezers, Nantwich. Pours almost black with minimal tan head and good lacing. Oats are the mainstay of the aroma, plus some roasted malts. In the mouth it is quite bitter but with s little underlying sweetness. Flavour has oats, Bitter coffee grounds,= and malts. Hints of cola and vanilla come through later. Bitterness lasts into the dry finish. This is rather nice.

Hand-pulled pint in my local Spoon's on 18th November 2024. Halloween backwards, it's a decent beer. Clear autumnal gold body, white crown. Malty front with a citrus like undertone, easy drinking pint.

Very slightly hazy pale gold with a frothy white head and a soft fruity aroma with just a hint of grassy malt. Light bodied with a soft fruity taste, peach and grape, with citrus bitterness cutting in and a dry bittersweet finish

Cask at Justice Mill, Aberdeen. It pours clear golden - blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is bright, juicy, tropical fruits, fruit salad sweets, bubblegum, tropical accents, pineapple, melon and passion fruit. The taste is firmly dry initially, bitter - sweet character, gooseberry crumble, ripe melon, fruit cocktail, tropical vibes, splash of lilt, biscuity malt and a touch of pine with a dry, lingering bitter finish. Average body and moderate, fluffy casl carbonation. Really nice depth of fruit to it. Satisfying and moreish. Very good.

440ml can from Anthony's of Wellington, drank at home on 26th October 2024 (can BB 31st January 2025). Cloudy, pale golden body, white topping. Pineapple aroma and main taste, some less sweet citrus fruits kick in too. Took a while to drink it to be honest, most likely the combination of pineapple juice, 5 different hops and 3 different grains.
