Honey-coloured ale. Aroma of pine, paper and earth. Intriguing! The taste is surprising: very, very dry. Bitterness slyly invades the palette and takes over through the finish and aftertaste. Moreish. All in all this is a standard bitter that delivers more than most. A little bow to history and understatement.

Cask, 1/3 pint at GBBF 13, day 1. Clear golden body. Shiny naked surface. Aromas of grassy hops joined by malty sweetness. Leafy hops and caramel flavours leading to a dry, bittersweet ending. Decent, well blended Brit bitter (London Olympia 13.08.2013).

Bottle. Almost clear copper/brown liquid with small to medium light brown head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, toast, earth, bread and dried fruit. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of toast, caramel, bread and dried fruit. Light to medium bodied with high carbonation. Quite nice, but the carbonation is quite disturbing.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 23rd July 2013. Amber with thin ring-and-film and almost no lacing. Floral hop and elderflower aromas. Fruity and floral in-mouth, with sweet elderflower, and lemon tang which extends into fruity finish. The eventual finish is somewhat grainy and bittersweet, and the mouthfeel is slightly zingy. Rated as a novelty beer.
