Description
The Budelse Brouwerij (Budels Brewery) is a family business that still values the traditions that have guided the brewery for centuries now. It's been at the very heart of the village of Budel in Brabant since 1870. Founded 150 years ago by Gerardus Arts as Brouwerij de Hoop (the Hope Brewery). Today, the fourth generation of the Arts family is at the helm and we are just as committed to the brewing as our ancestors.

(Bottle 30 cl) Clear amber with a somewhat rough, off-white head. Roasted malt aroma. Medium body with notes of roasted malt and a shipload of bittering hops. Wee, underlying sweetness. 281205

A hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and straw, while the flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel.

(Bottle 30 cl) Pale pilsener golden with a small, creamy, white head. Lightly sweet, malty nose. Rather light body, somewhat watery, but still with a decent malty feel and a solid hoppiness. Weak metallic edge. Quite a fresh pilsener. 121205

Clear amber color, good creamy brown head. Glue and rubber-like aroma, not very delicious. Light, harsh rubbery malty flavor with some sugar sweetness. Not very winter-like. Tastes sweet and cheap ale.

Borwn color, not much head. Lemony, sweet sugary aroma. Medium-bodied, fruity, chocolaty, some grassy hops. Unfortunately this all is made in quite boring way - "commercial abbey dubbel" - type of brew. Some alcohol in the finish. (6/3/7/3/12 3.1)
Re-rated, bottled (BB 10/2007)
Red ruby color, big tan head. Sweet roasted sugar aroma with some coffee beans. Medium-bodied. Quite sweet, added kandi sugar here. Chocolate, grassy hops hiding the background. Sweetish aftertaste. Too much sugar, I wonder what ageing does to this one. (6/4/6/2/12 3.0)

Golden color, not much head. Malty, rye bread aroma. Medium-bodied, malty, a bit harsh-bitter and alcoholic. Nothing really wrong with this, but simple and in the class B of "Belgium" ales.

Draft, Kafe Belgie. Clear yellow color, medium white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, some spice, bit floral. Pleasant bitter and slightly dry taste. Nice balance for a Budels beer, which are usually not the best. Probably the draft version is better than the bottled version, because than the beer is somewhat softer and less outspoken in taste.

(Botle 30 cl) Pilsener golden with a small, white head. Fresh, floral, hoppy nose. Quite malty with a weak, underlying sweetness which is quickly blown away by dry, bitter hops. This lacks some body. Somehow this appears more like a strong German pilsener - it really hasn’t got much of an ale-feel. Unusual. 220705

Clear light yellow color, short white head. Pils brewed with some honey. Makes the beer pretty sweet, but the honey is not too overwhelming. So quite nice balance, but it is still a budels brew.
