Description
Established 1666 - Closed 1989 - Re-established 2010 - Re-named 2022
One of the greatest names in British brewing, Truman's has been a part of London life for almost 350 years. Closed in 1989 during dark days for the brewing industry, we have been working hard to bring Truman's back to its former glory. We craft an eclectic range of great beer in cask, keg and can at our new brewery in Hackney Wick. Everything we brew, we do with with skill, belief and passion.
The brewery in Hackney Wick was closed in June 2022 but the award-winning recipes are now brewed under contract for the three venues and online sales.
From Thursday 15 September, Truman’s Beer will be known as Big Penny, following the acquisition of the trademark by the management team at the Old Truman Brewery announced earlier this year.

Keg at Globe Tavern, Borough. Struggling to pick up an aroma. Golden. Bubbly. Creamy white head. Light bitter. Almost lagery. Light bodied. Thin. Fizzy carb. Abrupt finish. This is an APA? Perfectly drinkable, but an APA? Poor attempt style wise. More a v gold/lager mad up.

Cask at the Oxford, Kentish Town on 5th September 2017. Amber with thin spot-lacing foam. Fruity citrus hop aroma. Citrus hops and spices in-mouth, with a grassy note.a grassy bitter finish after the fading of the fruitiness. Zingy mouthfeel and a light body.

Hazed golden color with a fine thick white head. Good lacing. Fine intensity in the aroma. Quite fresh actually. Medium (-) body and an ok carbonation level. Balanced sweetness and a decent bitterness. Malty, mild citric and some fruity notes. Quite nice and refreshing ale.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at Offie & Toffee. Pours mostly clear yellow with a creamy, pure white head. Pleasant crispy biscuits in the aroma, some straw, a little dough. Light sweet flavour with low bitterness, more biscuits, white bread, very faint grapefruit. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, with more doughy biscuits, mild bitter hay, nips of lemon meringue. A not surprisingly simple, very drinkable kolsch.

Cask @ Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours pale gold, good white head. Faint pale malt on the aroma. Very light and breezy palate, with distant floral notes, straw, drying finish. A bit unexciting.
