Established in 1882
Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a pale straw with a large white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma, just some hints of floral hops and malts. Sweet malts to the fore at first in the aroma, but later some bitter hops come through along with grains and traces of orange peel. Sweetness returns at the finish. It’s OK, nothing more.

Hand-pulled pint on St Davids Day (1st March) 2023. Thomas Botfield (Spoons). Pale blonde body, clean and clear; large white crown that lasted. Not much going on to be honest, mild grassy aroma and taste, light bitterness and a hint of sweet malts, let's go for 'subtle' rather than 'bland'.

Clear and golden with a frothy white head and a light malt aroma. It's a little bit creamy with some hints of sweet biscuit and fruit and a very soft floral bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Dark brown/black sporting a good beide head. Aroma of malts and dried fruits. Taste of chocolate, malts, raisins, molasses and dried fruits with tiny hints of liquorice. Distinct bitterness. Low carbonation. Thin but also creamy mouthfeel. Very neat and a little bit more tasteful than the cask version I reckon.

Fles gedeeld door Koenzie. Het is een helder amberkleurig bier met een medium schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige wat fruitige en hoppige geur. De smaak is vol, moutig en caramel achtig met tonen van honing.

Rocky white head stayed on an unclear finely carbonated amber coloured body. Tangy, fruity & bitter aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the tongue with a clean back. Pale malt, caramel, berries & stone fruit tastes with a bitter hoppy citrussy finish. Easy drinking.
